Seonyudo Park: One Of The Best Kept Secrets In Seoul
Seonyudo Park sits on an island on the Han River in Seoul, Korea between Hapjeong and Dangsan and is one of the best kept secrets in Seoul. The island, only accessible by foot bridge, walking, or bus, used to house a water treatment plant but in the effort to bring green space back to Seoul, it was released back to nature. Just south of the popular art and live music district known as Hongdae sits Seonyudo Island. There are only a few islands on the Han River that are accessible and this park is one cool one to find. Crossing the bridge from Hapjeong Station to Dangsan Station, I’ve seen…

Bongeunsa Temple: The Must See Korean Temple In Gangnam
Bongeunsa Temple (봉은사) is definitely one of the most popular Korean temples in Seoul along with Jogyesa temple. The popular temple sits in the ritzy Gangnam-gu area and tourists from near and far stop by as it’s an easy temple to find while out and about. While most of Korea’s Buddhist temples are set up in mountains entailing at least a short walk or hike into a forest, Bongeunsa is one of a few temples in Seoul that sprawls over an expanse that sits just beyond a major thoroughfare, though of course it wasn’t planned to be that way. While I would direct tourists to take the time to hike…

Housewarming Parties In Korea: A Gifting Guide
When my husband and I moved a couple years back, I decided it was high time we had a housewarming party or a jipdeuri (집들이) in Korean. We invited friends and on the day of the get-together I was confused when my husband said we had to go get this food or that drink. Had I under prepared? Wouldn’t our friends be bringing food and it’s Korea, so probably drinks, or flowers and plants? As Emily Post had taught me, guests, though it’s not a rule, often bring drinks, say a bottle of wine, perhaps some bread and the odd plant or two. No, this is not the case in…

My Top Ten Adventures of 2015!
Much like 2014, not all of the adventures I undertook this year involved traveling yet this year managed to be extremely adventurous and full of first time experiences. I love looking back at my year and appreciating everything that I’ve done. It’s always fun to reminisce and be thankful for the experiences, events, people and more that I have had, gone to and met. I hope that everyone takes the time to recall their year as we near the end and I hope that everyone has at least a few moments to smile upon and be grateful for. Here are my top ten adventures of 2015! (This post contains affiliate…

(UPDATED for 2023) Chuseok, one of the biggest holidays in Korea, is coming up and many Korean families will head to their family homes to be thankful for the good harvest by eating lots of food and playing traditional games. Often tourists and foreigners in Seoul are left wondering what will be open during Chuseok and what they can do. Here are some ideas for what to do this year for Chuseok in Seoul which is a four day holiday that spans September 28th to September 30th. Chuseok, or the Korean Thanksgiving, is one of the best times to STAY in Seoul in my opinion. Seoul is a fairly new…

What’s A Mother To Do? No Changing Tables In Korea
It's fairly easy to take her out without causing much of a scene, but one thing I've noticed again and again is that wherever we go, if she were to need a changing, there wouldn't be anywhere to do it. Bathrooms just aren't equipped with the necessary changing table and though in the past five years bathrooms around Seoul have generally seen a big upgrade in cleanliness, they are far from clean enough to change a baby if there isn't a changing table available. What's a mother to do?

The Addresses Are Changing in Korea… Again
You may remember that last year the addresses changed in Korea. Streets were renamed and buildings were given numbers in order to establish some semblance of order. Anyone in Korea, foreigner and Korean, will tell you that though an address will get you in the general area, they are not all that helpful, well they weren’t, if you wanted to find a location. Buildings that were built well after the one next door and the one down the street were given the next number on the list even though that meant it would be 200 and between 35 and 36-2. And so, the system was overhauled. However, and that should…

Hiking On The Seoul Fortress Wall
Looking to go for a hike in Seoul? Definitely consider a Seoul Fortress Wall hike. There are some great mountains that you can hit, but if you want to have a bit of history and something to see along the way, not to mention a wall to follow so you don’t get lost, the wall that surrounds central Seoul is great. Whether you’re solo, with friends, or even kids, a hike along the Seoul Fortress Wall makes for a fun trip. I have hiked the Seoul Fortress Wall in the winter, in the summer, while pregnant and while not and it is always a fun adventure. Hike along the Seoul…

The Vault: A 5D Fun Frenzy
(CLOSED) Food, drinks and a game that includes mystery, intrigue, clues, lasers and puzzles? My kind of night out. The Vault is that something different you’ve been looking to do with your friends this weekend. The Seoul Shakespeare Company: Titus Andronicus
For the next two weekends, The Seoul Shakespeare Company will be performing the play Titus Andronicus. Considered to be Shakespeare’s first play, Titus Andronicus weaves a tale of mystery and intrigue with love, horror, violence and racism. Those fans of Game of Thrones will find this play especially appealing. With the amount of gore and barbarity along with the different families seeking power and revenge plot after revenge plot, it’s Game of Thrones with a beginning, middle and and ending in 3 hours and 15 minutes. If you don’t know the story of Titus Andronicus, then now is a perfect time to take in a show. (This post contains affiliate links, which…

Crazy Multiply Shows Archaioposterii: The Ides
This month, the Crazy Multiply art collective tried something new. While the collective has shown short one night get-it-while-it’s-hot art with live music and craft beer up until now, this month they went all out for a week long show. (This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a certain percentage of a sale if you purchase after clicking at no cost to you. Thank you for your support.) Last month, Crazy Multiply showcased artists in a show entitled Archaioposterus and while the Yogiga space they’ve shown out of for some time offers a great atmosphere for the party type shows they’ve had, there just wasn’t quite enough space…
