The Hyundai Seoul (더현대서울)

Opened in 2021, The Hyundai Seoul had already welcomed 80 million customers by 2023, a remarkable pace for a mall that was two years old. The scale is vast (equivalent to 13 football pitches) but the design is deliberately generous with green space, indoor plantings, and a glass ceiling that floods the space with natural light. The result is a mall that doesn’t feel as relentless as its size might suggest.

Top Korean and international luxury brands fill the 12 floors, alongside a constant rotation of K-pop artist pop-up stores including aespa, NewJeans, and BTS have all had dedicated installations. Tasty Seoul, described as the largest food hall in Korea, anchors the lower floors with the city’s most sought-after restaurant names.

Starfield COEX Mall (코엑스몰)

An underground shopping complex in Gangnam with 260 stores and around 100 dining options, but more importantly: the Starfield Library (one of the most photographed spaces in Seoul, completely free), the COEX Aquarium, the largest cinema in Korea, a convention center hosting exhibitions year-round, and the Seven Luck Casino for foreigners. The mall is also in a prime position for the Gangnam Style hands sculpture outside and Bongeunsa Temple directly across the street.

Lotte Department Store (롯데백화점)

The landmark of Myeongdong’s shopping district. Three connected buildings cover apparel through accessories and international luxury goods, with Lotte Young Plaza, a six-floor space oriented toward younger styles, as a separate but connected section. Duty-free shopping for tourists is available for buy-in-store, collect-at-airport purchases.

The basement food court is one of the better options in Myeongdong, if you don’t want to navigate the street food queue.

Shinsegae Shopping Mall (신세개백화점)

The company that introduced the department store concept to Korea. Shinsegae carries premium and luxury international fashion brands, Korean fashion, and an excellent food hall. Located on Yeouido Island, IFC Mall occupies the basement floors of the International Finance Center and connects directly to the subway. The brand lineup is more accessible and mid-range compared to The Hyundai Seoul next door, making the two complementary rather than competing. Lotte World Mall (롯데월드몰)

Head to the Lotte Sky Tower, the tallest building in South Korea, take in the views, and then head to Lotte World Mall just downstairs. There’s plenty of shopping, but also art exhibitions held often which is why we usually head there.

Lotte Duty Free shops, an art museum, a movie theater, restaurants, and of course a ton of your favorite stores are all in one place right near the Seokchon Lake.

D-Cube City (디큐브시티)

Connected to Sindorim Station, D-Cube houses the D-Cube Theater (plays, musicals, exhibitions) and a Pororo Theme Park inside the mall, making it one of the better options in Seoul for visits with young children. Local fashion retailers and restaurants fill the rest.

This open-air mall in the heart of Insadong is a newer addition to this traditional district in downtown Seoul.
