Chuidasun: The Hotel For Tea & Meditation Lovers On Jeju Island

Chuidasun Resort is one of the newest additions to the list of official Wellness Travel Destinations recommended by the Korea Tourism Organization and I got to visit for some tea ceremonies, meditation, and Jeju views recently. If you’re a tea-lover coming to Korea, or a tea-lover heading to Jeju I should say, check out this stay to check in. Jeju is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Korea and though I’ve visited the Hawai’i of Korea four times, I’m still seeing new and amazing places.

This is definitely one of the best places to stay in Jeju if you want to visit the east side of the island and enjoy a relaxed trip with meditation, yoga, and tea. Need to replenish and destress? This is the place for you.

How To Get There

Jeju Island is NOT the easiest to get around if you’re trying to travel via public transportation. This is why choosing where you want to stay and what you want to see before you go is oh so important. It’s easy to get to, but once you’re there, you’ll probably want to rent a car if you want to see and do more.

If you don’t plan on renting a car, make sure you stay near the sites you want to see because buses are few and far between and you could potentially spend a ton of time just waiting. On the note of buses, roads, and transportation, make sure you download KakaoMap to help with GPS and maps. Google does not really work in Korea and it absolutely won’t help you on Jeju Island.

Get To Jeju: First you’ll have to get to Jeju Island. Did you know you can get there by plane OR by ferry? Here are all of the different ways you can get to Jeju.

Rent A Car: Renting does not have to be a hassle. If you don’t want to go directly with a local shop, check out Klook which offers a great deal on rental cars and works really well for tourists. It’s fast and efficient and you’ll land and be on the road in no time. For more information and options, read this guide to how to rent a car in Jeju.

Airport Transfer: If you won’t be renting a car, make sure to plan your airport transfer. Headed to the Seogwipo area, you can book a transfer here.

Private Car & Tour: If you’d rather not drive but have someone drive you and your group around, then check out booking a driver to take you around. Klook has a great option that has three itinerary, OR customize your own. You can take the car around from 9:00am to 5:00pm and see so much. Check out this private car and tour option for Jeju Island on Klook.

Jeju City Bus: There is a hop on hop off bus on Jeju Island if you can’t rent a car and want to get around via public transportation. The double decker bus starts at Jeju Airport or you can get on at the Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal. They make stops at Sarabong Peak, Dongmun Traditional Market, Eoyeong Coast Road, Dodubong Peak and some more awesome spots. Look into the Jeju City Bus if you don’t want to rent a car on your trip.

The Experience

All of the rooms in the hotel face toward the ocean which is immediately calming. The corner rooms, though, actually look out over the ocean AND get the field views behind. This is important to note because the sun will set behind you so if you have a corner room, or a Family Room, you get ocean views and Udo Island and can take advantage of the sunset behind Hallasan Mountain too.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We chose a family room on our visit and this featured a large central room and traditional Korean style bedding as well as a separate bedroom with traditional Korean style bedroom up on a platform for a cozier feel. It was a very large amount of space for just the three of us. The floor to ceiling windows in the front also provided a beautiful view of the ocean that we enjoyed.

After checking in, visitors are asked to choose a time for a complimentary tea ceremony. Korea is known for some wonderful teas. There are four tea rooms called Gongseon Tea Room, Jungno Tea Room, Seonbi Tea Room, and Seonnyeo Tea Room.

When you head to the tea rooms that are on the B1 floor, you will first head into the gift shop area to let staff know which teas you’d like to try. There are organic green teas from Jeju, organic roasted green teas, Gushu black teas, and dark fermented teas to choose from. Haven’t had Jeju’s iconic O’Sulloc tea? You should.

The gift shop features a variety of amazing teas and tea supplies that you can peruse while your room is being prepared. Once inside, a staff member eloquently explains how to pour tea and shows you so that you can then take over and continue on your own enjoying the quiet and beautiful adorned tea rooms.

You will play the role of the paengju, or the person who serves, and participate in haengda, brewing and serving tea. It’s worth noting that this is free for guests, but also, anyone can take advantage of this tea ceremony for just W10,000 if you stop in between 10:00am and 8:00pm.

Another reason to head to Chuidasun Resort is to take advantage of the mediation and yoga programs. Rise early in the morning and attend a 30 minute tea, meditation, and lecture on being truly happy with the owner of the hotel. In the program, you will drink a cup of tea in three gulps while practicing tea meditation.

The 6:40am meditation and tea is standard from Sunday through Saturday while the other programs are standard times but vary in what is offered each day. At 8:10am, you could partake in yoga or Body To Mind meditation. Yoga and OSHO movements take place in the evenings from 7:00pm.

One thing I will say is that though the name is Chuidasun Resort, it would be more of what I consider a hotel. There is a restaurant separate on the grounds, but other than the building to sleep in and the restaurant, there isn’t anything else on the “resort” grounds.

When we visited, the cafe was built but was still being decorated. I have a feeling the place is still being built and perhaps one day will be more of that resort that the name suggests. That said, what does currently exist is beautiful, welcoming, and calming.

Between yoga and tea, head right out to enjoy the sand and sea that is right in front of the hotel. A portion of the Olle Trail is also right in front of the hotel so you can take a walk and get a stamp while you stay too. Or just have fun and frolic on the shore like we did. Laughing, smiling, running, and spinning is just as important for that mental and physical wellbeing so enjoy enjoy enjoy.

What To See Nearby

There are some really beautiful natural places near the hotel to visit and see. It’s a great starting point to see the east side of Jeju. Here is what you should have on your itinerary if you stay at Chuidasun Resort.

Udo Island (우도(해양도립공원))

3.8 kilometers off the east coast of Jeju Island, Udo Island is a beautiful escape that is perfect for a daytrip from Jeju Island. There are scenic sights, female divers, stone walls, tombs, and more to see. There is also the popular white beach called Seobin Baeksa that has appeared in numerous films and commercials so you may even recognize it. From the island you can also enjoy a submarine ride to really get that scenic underwater experience too.

If you’ve visited Museum San in Wonju, Korea, then you know how beautiful the architecture is that houses a beautiful artistic collection inside.
