Nestled in the heart of this bustling district, the store’s exterior boldly breaks away from the sea of glass-fronted boutiques that surround it.

Instead, the SKIN1004 Flagship Store presents an intense rock-textured facade, a nod to untouched nature but with a modern twist that draws you in with its unexpected warmth and depth. Let it draw you in. Let it.

SKIN1004 is a Korean skincare brand that was first launched in 2012. They focus on using high-quality raw materials with a focus on the Centella Asiatica sourced from Madagascar.

SKIN1004 is passionate about using safe ingredients that are good for people with sensitive or irritated skin and are a cruelty free Korean skincare brand. They avoid common irritants like alcohol, parabens, triethanolamine, artificial fragrances and colors.

The Style and Setting

Walking through the entrance, I was enveloped in a space that seemed more like a journey through a natural landscape than a mere store. The interior, bathed in warm browns and beiges, is inspired by the pristine beauty of Madagascar and it stands out as most brands that focus on nature use natural greens.

Rocks, pebbles, and sand replace the usual flora, creating a serene oasis amidst the urban chaos of Myeongdong. It felt like a breath of fresh air, an escape from the city without ever leaving it.

The first floor is a sensory delight, designed to reflect the brand’s philosophy of merging untouched nature with modern aesthetics and promotes some of my favorite SKIN1004 products. From rocky textures to reed landscapes and even a scene that simulates water waves. (Be careful not to step into the actual water though.)

Media walls display scenes of nature, further enhancing the immersive atmosphere. It was as if the store itself was guiding me through the wild, untamed beauty that SKIN1004 seeks to capture in its products.

Head upstairs and there is a space dedicated to exploring and purchasing skincare products and of course having some fun too. Hop into the photobooth and take some fun photos.

Here, the modern meets the natural in a harmonious blend. The striking rock sculpture from the first floor remains in view, illuminated by ceiling-mounted lights that keep the natural ambiance intact. This level feels both intimate and expansive, a place where you can take your time testing products, attending events, or simply enjoying the calm that the space exudes.

It is also on this floor that you can really take in all of SKIN1004’s lines of Korean beauty products and see which one will be best for your skin.

The store’s design by LMTLS is not just about aesthetics but about creating an experience that resonates with the brand’s core values. The careful use of brass metal in the entrance and windows, the curved windows, and the strategically placed benches all contribute to a three-dimensional space that feels alive and dynamic.

The SKIN1004 Flagship Store in Myeongdong encourages visitors to explore and take in their products in a more natural and approachable way. The shelves aren’t overflowing with products, but instead, everything is carefully placed allowing a more freeing experience to peruse, use, and ask questions.

At the heart of SKIN1004’s products is the Madagascar Centella Line, a product range that has gained immense popularity for its soothing properties. The ampoules, in particular, have become a favorite, thanks to their lightweight feel and calming effect, which has made them a hit both in Korea and internationally. It was this product that I tried first and I have loved it ever since.
