SKIN1004: The Entire Hyalu-Cica Line Reviewed!

Looking for hydrating Korean skincare products? Have you heard of SKIN1004 yet? A couple years back, I got my hands on the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella toner and ampoule and immediately adored them. They were so easy to apply and so hydrating. They left my skin supple and moisturized.

All that to say, when I heard SKIN1004 had a new line of Madagascar Centella and Hyaluronic Acid products, I was excited to try it. Tending toward dry skin myself, I look out for Kbeauty products touting hydration and moisturization as this one does.  So let’s see how they stand up!

Who is SKIN1004?

SKIN1004 is a Korean skincare brand that was first launched in 2012. They focus on using high-quality raw materials with a focus on the Centella Asiatica sourced from Madagascar. SKIN1004 is passionate about using safe ingredients that are good for people with sensitive or irritated skin and are a cruelty free Korean skincare brand. They avoid common irritants like alcohol, parabens, triethanolamine, artificial fragrances and colors.

What Is Centella?

Before we get too far into the review, I think it’s important to know what the main ingredient is. Centella Asiatica is also known as Cica, so you may have seen it on other products. It is rich in antioxidants so it helps soothe inflammation of the skin which means it’s great if you are trying to combat redness or acne. Centella asiatica extract also has anti-aging powers, is rich in amino acids and helps boost skin elasticity.

When you start to read the ingredients lists carefully, you’ll find this all over. It’s in one of my must-have favorite products, the Parsley Seed Energy Serum by AwakeAsleep and in one of my favorite vitamin C serums, the All day Vitamin Brightening & Balancing Serum from Jumiso. It’s really a necessity for my skin and probably for yours too.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

If you have dry skin like I do, then you definitely need to look out for more products with Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is intensely hydrating when used properly and attracts moisture helping skin to be firm and bouncy. Hyaluronic Acid is used in skincare products as a humectant that grabs water and and keeps it on your skin. To really be hydrating, products with different kinds and sizes of hyaluronic acid are ideal. This hydrating and moisturizing in turn helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and age lines.

Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-fit Sun Serum SPF 50+ PA++++ Review

What is it? Chemical Filter Sunscreen

The Hyalu-Cica Water-fit Sun Serum has non-nano chemical filters for sun protection and blocking UV rays. The sun protection includes: Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol, and Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone. The sun serum simultaneously takes care of your skin with beneficial ingredients like hyaluronic acid for hydration and centella asiatica to soothe and rehydrate dehydrated skin.

When to use it: Apply daily as the last step in your routine. Reapply as needed throughout the day.

My Thoughts

Like a lot of people, I didn’t grow up thinking to put sunscreen on unless I was headed to the beach or would be outside all day in the summer. The rest of the year and during whichever activity, it wasn’t really a consideration. Because of that, I still have to remind myself how important it is to wear sunscreens daily. I LOVE sunscreens that are quick and easy to apply and also contain other skin-benefitting ingredients because of this. While I don’t need that heavy duty physical sunscreen every day, getting some sun protection every day is a must.

SKIN1004: Hyalu-Cica Water-fit Sun Serum SPF 50+ PA++++ Review, Korean skincare, Kbeauty

I really adore sun serums and the Hyalu-Cica Water-fit Serum fits the bill for what I’m looking for when it comes to a comfortable SPF for daily-wear. After application, the sun cream is not greasy at all and doesn’t leave any kind of white cast. It’s not matte but also not dewy. It feels more like a light face lotion. There is no pilling even when reapplied multiple times throughout the day.

Coming off covid with a new much more pared down skincare routine, I love how easy this is to apply and how beneficial it is to my skin. It feels great going on and is easy to carry around and reapply throughout the day. It could easily become one of my favorite sun serums.

Where To Buy: You can get SKIN1004 products on their Amazon storefront, Yesstyle, and Stylevana.

Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Blue Serum Review

What is it? Serum

The Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Blue Serum promises to hydrate, soothe, and brighten the skin. There are five types of hyaluronic acid for hydrating the skin and ceramide to help the moisture from the hyaluronic acid stay. The Madagascar centella smooths while the ivy leaf improves the look of dull skin. There’s also niacinamide to improve the appearance of pores, fine lines, and pigmentation as well as fight acne.

SKIN1004: Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Blue Serum Review, Korean skincare, Kbeauty

When to use it: After cleansing and application of toner.

My Thoughts

The serum is thick and I appreciate that there is a pump lid so that it is effortless to use. It feels like a gel and easily spreads across the skin. There is an aroma which I found pleasant but it’s really not that strong at all. I don’t think most people would notice it unless you were really trying to. I tend to have dry skin so I’m always looking for products with extra hydrating power. I tend to love anything with hyraluronic acid because of this, and this easily hit the mark.

I didn’t find this serum sticky or tacky like I do some others. It easily layered on top of the toner and found this left my skin very hydrated and plump. I used the entire Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica line for a month and noticed a clear brightening effect of my skin as well.

Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Sleeping Pack Review

What is it? An evening moisturizer

This multi-tasking sleeping mask is formulated with pear and melon fruit extract for a calming and vitalizing effect on the skin. It’s packed with Madagascar cica extracts for soothing effects and three kinds of hyaluronic acids for deep long-lasting hydration. This sleep pack is meant to rejuvenate the skin to reveal softer, glowing skin when you awake in the morning.

When to use it: Apply to the face and neck at the end of your evening routine*

*Sleeping packs are also often recommended to be stored in the fridge between uses for a cooler more soothing effect. Definitely consider this in the hot summer months.

My Thoughts

This sleeping pack has a very light gel-like texture that spreads easily across the skin. My usually dry skin really soaked this right up and it left no sticky or tacky texture after doing so. A little goes a long way with this… you don’t need as much as I have on my hand in the photo above even. Each night that I put this on, I woke with much more supple soft skin. The effects were great and exactly what I look for in a sleeping pack.

Would definitely buy this again. I used the entire Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica line for a month and noticed a clear brightening effect of my skin as well.

Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Brightening Toner Review

What is it? An AHA/LHA Toner

The Hyalu-Cica Brightening Toner has 74% centella asiactica leaf water, niacinamide, three different forms of hyaluronic acid including: sodium hyaluronate, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, and hyaluronic acid. This toner is meant to gently exfoliate your skin while soothing and brightening. It is said to have the golden ration of hyaluronic acid for moisturization and cica for calming and soothing.

SKIN1004: Hyalu-Cica Brightening Toner Review, Korean skincare, Kbeauty

When to use it: After cleansing the skin.

My Thoughts

I was pumped for this toner because I found their previous toner so delightful for my skin. It is thin and a bit watery and didn’t leave my skin tacky or sticky after use. I didn’t notice any discernible aroma or scent. Overall, I found this toner to be very hydrating and easy to layer on top of in both my morning and evening routine.

If I had to choose between this one and their original Madagascar Centella Toning Toner though, I’d choose their original one as I found it made my skin more supple. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy this one. It’s light, easy to apply, and was hydrating and a good addition to the entire line up but I think my skin really responded to their original toner a bit more.

Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica First Ampoule Review

What is it? An ampoule to boost moisture

Enhance your skin with a combination of hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica extract, this ampoule is meant to combat dryness and moisturize the skin. There are 5 layers of hyaluronic acid penetration for a long lasting moisturizing effect. Key ingredients include niacinamide for brightening and fighting acne, capryloyl salicyclic acid as an exfoliant, and hedera helix (Ivy) leaf/stem extract for soothing and antibacterial effects.

When to use it: They recommend that you use this after cleansing your skin as the first step in your routine.

My Thoughts

First thing’s first, this is a big ampoule bottle! You could use this morning and evening for months. There’s no major aroma or scent that I can detect. The long pipette means that you get ample amount of ampoule with just one squeeze. I love that. The ampoule has a light watery consistency that absorbs quickly into the skin. It left my skin hydrated but I will say that their other Madagascar Centella Ampoule had a more supple effect for my skin. This was hydrating and more brightening though.

SKIN1004: Hyalu-Cica First Ampoule Review, Korean skincare, Korean beauty

This ampoule didn’t give me any sticky or tacky effects. I did find it gave me hydration and brightened skin though and it works well under make-up and other beauty products. It had great effects and I look forward to continued use for the next few months as it will last that long for sure!

Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Moisture Cream Review

What is it? cream

This is a soothing daily cream meant to provide powerful hydration and moisturization for sensitive and dry skin. Key ingredients include centella asiatica extract and curcuma longa root extract which act as antioxidants as well as niacinamide which fights acne and brightens the skin. There are multiple extracts with soothing properties like hedera helix (ivy) leaf/stem extract, equisetum arvense extract, and turmeric root extract.

When to use it: Apply after cleansing

My Thoughts

A little goes a long way. This is a lightweight soft creamy mixture that I found really soothing and easy to put on. I generally use heavier creams actually and thought this was very lightweight and wasn’t sure how it would stand up, but my skin drank it up lovingly. It wasn’t sticky or tacky on the skin and was easy to wear on a daily basis. I found it very hydrating and brightening.

Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Cloudy Mist Review

What is it? Light hydration mist

This mist has an optimized ratio of hyaluronic acid and cica to soothe irritation due to dryness and simultaneously hydrate the skin. There is 40% green tea water which delivers vitamins and amino acids to the skin to protect the skin barrier and maintain skin elasticity as well as lock in the hydrating effects. Ceramide, hyaluronic acid, and adenosine are meant to restore skin elasticity, preserve the hydration, and protect the skin barrier.

SKIN1004: Hyalu-Cica Cloudy Mist Review, Korean skincare, Kbeauty

When to use it: Anytime your skin needs an extra dose of hydration throughout the day.

My Thoughts

I used this mist most often when I had been working on my computer for a few hours at my desk and started to feel my face pinch up a bit from being dry. The dispenser is good and releases a fine even mist. There is a bit of an aroma that quickly dissipates. It’s light and provides a brief hydrating feel but I didn’t find it incredibly long lasting. It left me with more of a tacky matte sort of feeling after use.

The creams and serum above had longer lasting effects in my opinion. This was probably my least favorite product in the line, but again, I’m not a huge mist fan so it is what it is.

    Hello!
First and foremost: Thank you for such a complete review!

I do have a question regarding the Hyalu-Cica First Ampoule, though.
You mentioned “Key ingredients include (…) capryloyl salicyclic acid as an exfoliant (…).”

I was just wondering where you read that or where you found it on the ingredient list…

I haven’t read that anywhere else, including their website, and it would be important information to consider for those of us planing to combine it with retinol, for example, since retinol and exfolianting acids are counter indicated in the same routine.

    Thanks for taking the time!
