Hopefully you have some time to head to the awesome beaches in Korea. But if you don’t, there are still plenty of ways to get wet and wild in Seoul. Let me help you dive into the best outdoor swimming pool in Seoul.

Han River Swimming Pools
The Han River Park system is amazing throughout the year, but come summer, water fills the swimming pools and it becomes even better. Bonus, they’re not all exactly the same. If you can’t get out to the beach towns in Korea, then plan to spend some time at the different swimming pools on the Hangang riverside.
The Han River becomes a haven for water lovers in the summer. Be sure to check out the other watersports, boating, and yachting options on the Han or rent some bicycles and take in the views that way this summer.
What to know before you go
If you plan to visit a Han River swimming pool this summer in Korea, here are a few things to be aware of to help you plan your trip. The Han River swimming pools are public swimming pools in Seoul and thus are very budget friendly.
- 2026 season: June 19 – August 30 (73 days straight, no rest days, though pools do shut down temporarily during heavy rain or flooding, so check before you head out if the forecast looks rough).
- Hours: 9:00am ~ 6:00pm during the day. Ttukseom, Yeouido, Jamsil, and Nanji extend into night swimming until 10:00pm starting July 3rd (more on that below).
- Two closures to know about: 15-minute breaks every hour, plus longer closures for lunch (roughly 12:00 ~ 1:00pm) and the evening changeover (roughly 5:30 ~ 7:00pm). This trips up more first-timers than anything else on this list, if you arrive right in one of these windows, you’ll be standing around waiting instead of swimming. Plan your arrival around them.
- These are public pools, so they’re genuinely budget-friendly, see the price table below.
- No glass anywhere near the poolside.
- You can bring food, drinks, and lunch along with you.
- Private tents are allowed, and I really do recommend bringing your own shade. The parasols at each park get grabbed early in the morning by families who show up before you’ve even had coffee.
- Outdoor showers are available, and indoor changing spaces at most pools too.
- Swim caps are required. Rubber tubes, flippers, and snorkels are not allowed.
- Parking is genuinely bad. I’ve circled the Ttukseom lot three times before just giving up and parking further away. Take the subway if you can, it’s not even close.
- Looking for the bigger pools? Head to Ttukseom or Yeouido. Want shallower, kid-friendly water? Nanji and Yanghwa are your best bet.
- Some pools let you reserve ahead through Naver Reservation (Yeouido, Yanghwa, and Nanji water playgrounds do); Ttukseom is on-site, cash-or-card-at-the-gate only. If you’re going on a hot Saturday, book ahead where you can.

- Extremely kid friendly with a depth of only 0.8 meters.

Ttukseom Han River Swimming Pool (뚝섬한강공원수영장)
- The most popular of the Han River swimming pools.
- Equipped with water slides, water cannons, and an aqua ring.
- Address: 112 Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul (서울 광진구 자양동 112)
Yanghwa Han River Swimming Pool (양화지구 한강야외수영장)
- Features a pool structured like streams and a separate area for sunbeds and umbrellas.
- This might be the closest to a club vibe among the Han River pools.

Yeouido Han River Swimming Pool (여의도 한강공원 수영장)
- The largest of the Han River swimming pools and can accommodate up to 3,600 people.
- Features a kiddie pool and adult pool and a 4 meter water ring.

Jamsil Han River Swimming Pool (잠실한강공원 수영장)
- Surrounded by Lotte World Tower and other high rises, you’ll have quite an urban oasis vibe here.
- Enjoy the pools, fountains, and other features here.

Gwangnaru Han River Swimming Pool (광나루한강공원수영장)
- Find water ball, pedal boats, water slides, and more here especially for the kids to enjoy.
- Kids must wear life vests at all times at this very family-friendly swimming pool in Seoul.

If you’ve swum at the Han River pools before, you might be looking for two names that used to be on this list. Both of the pools below are under construction this season. Neither is operating for the 2026 season, and I wouldn’t count on either one for 2027 either. If Jamwon or Mangwon was your usual spot, Ttukseom and Yeouido are your closest full-pool alternatives.
Jamwon Han River Swimming Pool (잠원한강공원수영장)
- This Han River pool also features an adult pool, a youth pool, and a kiddie pool making it very family friendly.
- There are parasols available, but they go fast so bring your own tent to this poolside.

Mangwon Han River Swimming Pool (망원한강공원 수영장)
- Features a baby pool, a youth pool, and an adult pool so you can be like Goldilocks and find the pool that is juuuuuust right.
- Great for families with a lot of space to spread out.

Night Swimming Available This Year
This is new-ish, and it changes the calculus on “go early or don’t bother.” Starting July 3rd, Ttukseom, Yeouido, Jamsil, and Nanji stay open until 10:00pm, with live music on weekends, busking nights at Ttukseom and Yeouido, and a floating “Hangang Music Splash” concert series at Nanji. If the daytime heat and crowds aren’t your thing, an evening session is the move. Yanghwa and Gwangnaru still close at 6pm, so keep that in mind if a night swim is the plan. That said, I’ve read reports that it’s getting super crowded.

The Banyan Tree Club & Spa is a private members club and public pool. The pool here tends to be much quieter and more private than other experiences you’ll find around the city. If you’re looking for an exclusive experience, this is where you’ll want to head this summer in Seoul.

A beautiful and trendy hotspot, The Shilla Hotel similarly only allows guests and gym members to take dips in their pool but look out for special summer discounts and packages and you can get lucky with an awesome Hocance, or Hotel + Vacance, as the locals like to say.

Hamilton Hotel Swimming Pool
While most hotel pools are private, Hamilton Hotel keeps theirs public and it gets pretty busy because of that. One thing worth knowing: it’s adults-only (19+), so this isn’t the spot if you’re bringing kids. If you’re looking for an outdoor pool in Itaewon, this is the spot for you.

Other places to get wet and wild
While there aren’t a TON of outdoor swimming pools in Korea, you will find a ton of fountains shooting out water and what are called “water playgrounds”. If you have kids in Seoul, your kid is bound to find water more often than you might plan for, so always have a change of clothes if your kid is anything like mine and can’t help but get wet.
Water playgrounds are called “물놀이장” in Korean. These may have some swimming pool like aspects, but the water is shallower and there will be more to play on. Picture playgrounds that are set in 2 feet of water with fountains raining water on the kids as they run and play. There are so many of them in Seoul, I couldn’t possibly list them. Have a search on your trusty Kakao Map or Naver Map and see where your nearest one is and then check it out.

No, Jamwon is closed for reconstruction, with reopening not expected until 2028. Ttukseom and Yeouido are the nearest full pools.
