If you don’t fall into one of those camps, you’ll likely find it a bit light on substance. At its core, this is a photo-op experience dressed up as a museum, and there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as you know what you’re signing up for.
Spanning three floors of Hello Kitty themed exhibits, a pink café, and a gift shop, it’s great if you’re looking for indoor activities or fun photo-ops for a couple hours, oh and the exclusive items in the gift shop that are only available in Jeju!

How To Get There
Getting to Hello Kitty Island takes a little planning, especially since Jeju Island has no subway system. That’s actually part of Jeju’s charm, it forces you to slow down and enjoy the scenery along the way.
By Bus (from Jeju International Airport): Take Bus 500 and get off at the Halla Hospital Bus Stop. From there, transfer to Bus 780 and ride until the Teddy Valley Golf Resort Bus Stop. Hello Kitty Island is just a short walk from there, about 100 meters or so.
By Bus (from Jeju Bus Terminal): Take Bus 344 to the second stop, cross the road, and transfer to Bus 282. Ride to the “Teddy Valley Golf & Resort, Hello Kitty Island” stop, cross the road, and walk straight until you see the building.
By Rental Car: Jeju is one of the few places in Korea where having a rental car genuinely makes sense. The island’s roads are scenic and manageable, and parking at Hello Kitty Island is available. What To See Inside Hello Kitty Island
The museum spans three floors, and the honest description is that it’s mostly a series of photo zones connected by Hello Kitty themed décor. That’s not a knock, the spaces are well done and cute, but set your expectations accordingly.
Hello Kitty History Hall
The ground floor kicks off with the Hello Kitty History Hall, which traces 40 years of the character’s evolution from a simple white cat with a bow to a global cultural icon. The red walls lined with artwork across the decades are visually striking, and for true fans, it’s a fun walk through nostalgia. Take your time here because this is the most informational part of the exhibition.
The Photo Zones
This is really the heart of the experience. The photo zones are well designed and fun for Hello Kitty fans and the children they may have with them, just know going in that snapping cute photos is the main activity here.
There are zones for Hello Kitty but many more of Sanrio’s famous characters. They’re kid-sized so your little ones will absolutely love walking into a world created just for them.
Arcade & Coloring
On the third floor, there is an arcade where you can try to win various toys from the machines. My daughter of course wanted to try but I talked her into spending her money down in the gift shop instead where she could actually choose what she gets rather than the luck of the draw. There is a little space to get paper and color the characters as well.
The Rooftop
Also on the third floor, you can go out to the rooftop for views out around the area. There are more photo op installations here as well.
The Hello Kitty Café
At the top of the building, the Hello Kitty Café is large and ready for you to sit and rest and talk about your favorite spots in the building. The space is dressed entirely in soft pinks with Hello Kitty motifs on every surface from cups, plates, walls, even the napkins. The menu features Hello Kitty themed drinks, cakes, and sweet snacks, and the presentation is adorable as any good cafe in Korea would be.
One honest note: The café items lean heavily sweet, and the cakes in particular are quite rich with frosting. They’re absolutely worth getting for the experience and the photos, but if you’re sugar-sensitive, pace yourself. The coffee drinks are more balanced and pair nicely with the overall vibe of taking a slow break midway through your visit.
The Gift Shop
On the ground floor, the gift shop is stocked with an impressive range of Hello Kitty souvenirs, some that are only available here on Jeju Island. This is likely where you’ll spend the most time. At least, that’s where my daughter spent the most time.
From the practical things like mugs, tote bags, and stationery to the truly delightful limited Jeju-edition items you won’t find anywhere else, there are items from all of the Sanrio characters here. To this end, if you just want a unique Sanrio item from the gift shop, you can actually go to the gift shop without paying the entrance fee.
Tip: Budget a little extra time here at the end of your visit. The shelves are well-organized but worth browsing carefully, not only unique finds here, but also sale items that aren’t overly promoted but when you look closely you can find.
Tips For Visiting With Kids
This is honestly where Hello Kitty Island earns its keep for families. Young children have a dedicated play area, and the interactive elements keep them engaged rather than just dragged through exhibits. I will say, my daughter is an older elementary student so the play area wasn’t for her, but she LOVES Sanrio, so she was all about getting pictures everywhere.
- The play area is a real draw for families with toddlers and young kids, not just themed décor to look at but actual space to play.
- Expect other families. This is a popular spot for Korean families on weekends and school holiday periods, so arrive early to avoid the biggest crowds.
- Strollers can be navigated through the museum.
Best Time To Visit
Hello Kitty Island is open year-round, and makes for a great rainy day activity on Jeju, which you always need to be prepared for. The island is known for unpredictable weather, and having a fully indoor attraction in your back pocket is always useful.
That said, weekday mornings during non-holiday periods are the quietest times to visit. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are the most popular travel seasons for Jeju, so expect more visitors during those months.

But if you’re looking for something that goes beyond photo opportunities and themed décor, it may leave you a little underwhelmed.
