Seoul Botanic Park, Magok, Seoul, Korea: Hallie Bradley

Seoul Botanical Park Greenhouse (서울식물원)

Opened in a bit of an unassuming area of Seoul, in Gangseo-gu in the southwest area of the city, in 2018. The entire park and garden are roughly the size of 70 soccer fields. The greenhouse is gorgeous and features not only the main floor to walk along with the plants, but there is also a skywalk to get a view from above too which just adds to the beauty. Also, a great spot to take photos if that’s your jam.

Seoul Botanic Park, Magok, Seoul, Korea: Hallie Bradley

There are various plant zones inside represented by different city names like Sao Paulo, Tashkent, Athens, Perth, and so on. We especially loved the waterfall and pond that is inside. We actually first visited before their official opening and have been back numerous times.

This one is really humid inside so we especially love it in the winter when it’s frigid and we need some warmth in our bones so maybe note it down for a later date. Learn more about the Seoul Botanic Park here.

Asan Botanical Garden Greenhouse (세계꽃식물원), Chungcheongnam-do, Korea

Asan Botanical Garden Greenhouse (세계꽃식물원)

This one is a bit out of the way, but that’s a good thing in my opinion. Fewer people the times we’ve been and it’s just huge so a lot of space to spread out. This was first opened by the Asan Garden Horticulture Association and there are 3,000 kinds of flowers inside.

It’s a lovely maze of plants that you walk in and around. There’s also an indoor pond with fish and a bridge that is adorable and at the end, you can even buy some plants to take home with you. This makes for a great stop if you’re planning a road trip, that’s when we added it into an itinerary and it was a nice stop off on the way to other cities south so we could get out and stretch and just move around a bit.

Bucheon Lake Botanical Garden’s Supia (부천호수식물원 수피아)

The Bucheon Lake Botanical Garden just opened their greenhouse called Supia in June of this year, 2022. The space is meant to be not only a greenhouse to see plants, but also a “clean resting place where citizens can visit and rest at any time” according to their site.

There are 28,000 plants of 430 species in 8 themed gardens with everything from houseplants to a baobab garden, insectivorous plants, and more. The greenhouse also has a spacious two floor cafe on one side with every seat enjoying beautiful green views.

It’s a great place to take a relaxing rest in the park or a place to find cover in those summer monsoon downpours. FYI, if you’ve got kids, head across the park too because there’s a fantastic playground here.

Bucheon EcoPark (부천자연생태공원), Bucheon, Korea

Bucheon Botanical Garden Greenhouse (부천자연생태공원)

This was a surprise find when I was actually headed to Wonmisan (원미산) to see the azaleas a few springs back. I noticed a beautiful greenhouse in a unique shape and mentally noted it to go back. Can you guess what floral shape it might have been constructed in?

The park there actually has a botanic garden, natural ecology museum, and an arboretum but what you first walk up to is the peach flower-shaped botanic garden greenhouse. The peach flower is the symbol of Bucheon City and the building has five petals and each is a different theme: general plants, aquatic plants, tropical plants, and so on.

There are butterflies that flutter near the indoor butterfly garden and then there’s a cool succulent plant garden too. It’s just a beautiful greenhouse to check out and has a lot of learning opportunities if you have children like me.

Hwaseong Botanical Garden Greenhouse (화성시 우리꽃 식물원), Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, Korea

Hwaseong Botanical Garden Greenhouse (화성시 우리꽃 식물원)

This one first struck me when I saw a photo of the exterior. It is a beautiful glass greenhouse but it’s shaped like a traditional Korean building. It’s just beautiful and unique in that way. And of course, off we went.

This beautiful greenhouse houses stone sculptures that represent Korea’s major mountains including Seoraksan (설악산), Jirisan (지리산), Taebaeksan (태백산), and Hallasan (한라산). Wonder if you could figure out which sculpture represents which mountain? There are also over 1000 species of plants indigenous to Korea inside. You’ll learn to love Korea’s natural ecosystem here.

Geoje Botanical Garden Greenhouse  (거제식물원)

To be honest, this is one that is on my list of needs to see because I haven’t made it down to the island of Geoje in some time. Just opened in recent years, this has been promoted as the largest dome glass botanical garden in Korea.

The giant dome took 7,500 triangular glass pieces to construct and from the outside looks like an egg that was cut in half lengthwise. It is 30 meters tall at its highest point and even has a 10-meter-high artificial waterfall inside as well as a skywalk. It’s a tropical paradise inside with fruit trees, a “Tree of Enlightenment”, Baobab trees, and plenty more to fill such a large space. It might just be time for an adventure to Geoje Island in Korea if you ask me.

Children’s Grand Park Botanical Garden Greenhouse (어린이대공원 식물원 온실)

This greenhouse in Seoul is comprised of two levels of fun with eight themed spaces including the tropical zone, flower and butterfly zone, succulent zone, and more. The botanical garden is just one of the numerous attractions in Seoul’s Children’s Grand Park and on top of that, it’s FREE. There is so much to do in the park itself, you’ll want to visit this stop and see everything else while you’re there.

National Institute of Ecology Ecorium (국립생태원(서천))

These connected greenhouses are an amazing learning opportunity. They represent five main climate zones and have over 1,900 flora representing each zone and a total of 230 fauna from the regions. It’s a really interesting use of space.

You’ll start at one end and walk through the different climate zones seeing and feeling the difference. It’s huge as well and tucked a bit out of the way in Korea means it could be less busy than other greenhouses. When we visited, there were only a handful of people going through the greenhouses. You may not have heard about Seocheon yet, but you should go and see the sights while you can!

Yeomiji Botanical Garden Greenhouse (여미지 식물원)

If you’re visiting Jeju Island in the winter but want to get that tropical feel, this is the place to head for sure. There is a flower and butterfly garden, an aquatic garden, a succulent plant garden, a tropical garden, and more.

In the center of this tall greenhouse is also an awesome observatory tower. You can take the elevator up to the top for a bird’s eye view of the entire botanical garden beneath you. If you visit on a clear day, you can also see out to the ocean beyond. When’s the last time you went to Jeju?
