The Coolest Culture Space In Korea Is In A Cave In Gwangmyeong
In the summer we were studying rocks and lava and decided to take a field trip south to Gwangmyeong Cave, or Gwangmyeongdonggul, (광명동굴). When Seoul starts to get too hot and humid to bear, take a trip here. The interior of the cave has a dramatic temperature difference from the outside and you can fill it literally as soon as you take one step in the entrance. Visiting is a really cool thing to do near Seoul… literally. Once a mine, today, it is the largest themed cave park in Korea. Plan your visit to Gwangmyeong Cave: (This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a certain percentage of…

Udo Island: A Guide To The Island Off The Coast Of Jeju Island
Jeju Island is much larger than you might expect which means you really need to know what you want to see before you go and stay near those things. If you’re staying on the west side of Jeju Island, for example, then you would really never have time to get to Udo Island which is off the eastern coast of the island. Stay near the beautiful Seopjikoji though, and you will definitely and should definitely make time for a daytrip to Udo Island. If you’re staying in the right place, or going to take the time to stay ON Udo Island, then here is the guide for you. Check out…

Travel Back In Time In Naganeupseong Folk Village In Suncheon
Having visited the Naganeubseong Folk Village (순천 낙안읍성), or Nagan Folk Village, twice in the past year, it’s high time I write about this charming and very unique folk village in Korea. Considered the best preserved Korean fortress town in the country, this is absolutely something you need to see in Jeollanam-do. Not only is it the best preserved, but it’s still active! There are 100 households with a bit over 200 residents that live in the traditional thatched roof homes in the village. It’s pretty amazing really. The town has been growing in popularity over the past few years but is still very much a hidden gem in Korea…

Looking for a beautiful escape this winter in Korea? Or maybe you are looking for things to do in Jeollanamdo. Whether you’re a tea lover, nature lover, or…

23 Places To See Pink Muhly In Korea In The Fall
While most people probably think of deep reds, yellows, and browns in the autumn, pink is sure becoming a standard autumn color in Korea these days. Pink muhly fields are all the rage each fall in Korea ever since a restaurant in Jeju brought the plant to the country. I’m sure they had no idea what they were doing and what they would unleash, but now there are fields and fields of the beautiful pink wispy grasses that make visitors look like they’re floating on pink clouds in the sky. If you love finding flowers in Korea as much as I do, then read on because this one is for…

How To Get To Jeju Island in Korea
Seems like everyone made it to Jeju (제주도) at least once last year and with a lot of travel restrictions still in place, it’ll be another summer of trips around Korea. Should you go to Jeju Island? Absolutely. Called the Hawaii of Korea, it’s got the palm trees, the beaches, and plenty to do if you want but also plenty of natural scenery for relaxing. Planning a trip to Jeju Island can be a bit overwhelming if you’ve never been, but it’s actually super easy to make the trip. Sinduri Beach & Sand Dunes: Where You Have To Go In Taean-gun, Korea
This past weekend I was ready for adventure and found myself in Taean-gun. Taean-gun is one of those easy getaways from Seoul in my opinion. I’ve been a few times because there is plenty to do and see but it’s not too far that it necessitates much effort in planning. That said, I surprised even myself with how beautiful Sinduri Beach (신두리해수욕장) and the sand dunes there were. While there are often crowds and busy hot spots all over Seoul to be seen, I relish finding places where the view is more vast landscape than people and that’s exactly what we found in Chungcheongnam-do on this trip. There is much…

The Latin American Museum To Visit Near Seoul
We have started homeschooling and with that comes the hunt for educational and fun things to do. An advantage of living here in Seoul means there are a ton of awesome museums and centers to visit to learn and have fun. Recently, I stumbled upon the Latin American Cultural Center-Museum (중남미문화원 병설 박물관) in Goyang and was surprised because there wasn’t much information online but it seemed right up our alley. Off we went. There are so many cool things to do with kids in and around Seoul but so much of it isn’t really promoted to foreigners so here is the info if you’re interesting in adding another great…

Bucheon EcoPark: A Fun Thing To Do With Kids In Korea
Ever on the lookout for parks, gardens and outdoor spaces near Seoul, I drove by Bucheon EcoPark (부천자연생태공원) some time ago as I was on the way to see the beautiful azaleas that cover Wonmisan Mountain in the spring and made sure to mark it on our map for another trip to Bucheon. Bucheon has some really interesting things to see, with or without kids, like the B39 Art and Culture Space and there’s also an aquarium in Bucheon to check out. For this trip though, we were ready to get outside, see some bugs, some flowers, and enjoy the scenery and the Bucheon EcoPark was great for that. Looking…

There are plenty of places around Korea to take an adventure and some are really hidden. This year has been the year for adventuring to hidden gems in Korea, hasn’t it? Are you ready…

Naksan Temple: A Guide To The Seaside Temple In Yangyang-Gun
A few years ago I remember hearing someone remark that Haedong Yonggungsa Temple in Busan was the only seaside temple in Korea. I sat back in my chair and thought about my trip to Naksansa Temple (낙산사) in Yangyang-gun and how it most surely must count as a seaside temple with a pavilion and paths that literally take you to Naksan Beach and waves that splash against the cliffs beneath your feet. There are often signs placed on landmarks on sites here that read the “tallest this”, or the “largest that” and they will be a string of words that are technically correct, but not really true in the way…
