What Time Is Sunset In Seoul?
Summer: As I said, sunset viewing becomes quite the summer activity… if you’re staying out late enough. In the summer, the sun sets around 9:00pm… and you should definitely be staying out to see it.
Winter: While the winter sunset is a bit less popular just due to the possible frigid temperatures, it does set earlier so you can catch it on the way home from work if you’re in the city for business. Don’t stare at your phone on the bus ride… look out the window whenever you can. The sun sets around 6:00pm in the winter in Seoul.

Tips For Seeing A Beautiful Sunset
I’m often seen staring out the window in the evening trying to guess if we should head to our rooftop or race down to the river or a park to catch the sunset. Here is what I look for when trying to decide if we should go out to see the sunset or not:
- There should be some clouds. I find the most beautiful sunsets have been when there are some clouds in the sky. I don’t know if it’s scientific, but it seems like the light really bounces around the clouds a bit more. When there are no clouds, the colors don’t seem to get as much reach.
- It should be sunny/partly cloudy day. If it’s rainy, there MIGHT be a break in the clouds, but it’s more difficult to guess. If it rains in the morning, but hasn’t all day, it could be a pretty good evening. But if it’s been raining most of the day, which can absolutely happen during monsoon season in Korea, it is more likely not to be that beautiful but just grey and cloudy.
- It shouldn’t be dusty. Unfortunately, we have a dust issue in Korea. Should you be wearing a fine dust mask in Korea? Absolutely. On high dust days, I don’t go out much at all if I don’t have to because it immediately gives me migraines. But on the sunset point, sunsets suck when the smog and dust are high. Check those high dust meters and look for it to be in the lower healthier ranges if you want to see a nice sunset. We need clear skies for beautiful views.
Where To See The Sunset In Seoul
Hotels
Signiel Hotel
As the tallest building in Seoul… well Korea, this is absolutely one of the BEST places for views of the city. Set in the southern district of Jamsil, you don’t even have to stay at the hotel to take advantage of the views, you could just visit their beautiful champagne bar in the evening for some drinks and views. But if you stay at Signiel Hotel, you’ll enjoy it even more. We’ve stayed there twice and it is absolutely one of the best stays you can have in this city.
- Book a stay at Signiel Hotel here on Booking.com or on Agoda.com.
- Address: 300 Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu Seoul (μμΈνΉλ³μ μ‘νꡬ μ¬λ¦Όν½λ‘ 300)
Four Seasons
We recently stayed at The Four Seasons and it is not only that luxury staycation to enjoy, but the sunset views out over nearby Gyeongbokgung Palace were just spectacular. (You can actually visit Gyeongbokgung Palace at night seasonally as well. Perhaps you should plan your stay when you can walk right down and visit too.)
Our evening view wasn’t as colorful as some sunsets are, but when it’s colorful and you can see those beautiful lights of the city and the traditional buildings on the palace grounds.

Riverside Parks & Cruises
Did you know there are 11 riverside parks in the city of Seoul? And there are more beyond Seoul too. Here is a guide to the Han River parks and what you can see and do in each one. Here are some of my favorite parks for views of the sunset.
World Cup Park: Nanji Han River Park (μλ컡곡μ, λμ§νκ°κ³΅μ)
My favorite park in the city, the great thing about World Cup Park is that it has height and riverside views. World Cup Park is actually a system of FIVE parks. You can either head down close to the water at Nanji Han River Park if you want to see the colors bounce off the water or you can head up to the popular Sky Park/Haneul Park to see the sunset out over the city buildings. There are a lot of options in this park and that’s exactly why I love it. I’ve said for years that this is one of the most underrated parks in the city so that brings with it a lot of benefits.
There will often be much less people in the Nanji Han River Park so you can enjoy that sunset on your own. This park also has an ecological park, campgrounds, cosmos fields, and more so a lot to see along with that sunset.

Banpo Han River Park (λ°ν¬νκ°κ³΅μ)
Banpo Han River Park is another great Han Riverside park to visit for sunset views and you can also visit Sevit Sum or Sevit Islands while you’re there. Have a bite to eat and then enjoy the sunset. The islands face the perfect direction to see the sunset out over the water. After the sun sunsets, head to nearby Banpo Bridge to see as it lights up into a rainbow and the fountains come alive. If you want to really do up the experience, check out renting a yacht/boat while you’re there. If you’ve got a group of friends or family, it’s really not as expensive as you might think. Check out renting a boat in Banpo here.

Han River Cruise
Want to see the sunset FROM the Han River? Your best bet is on one of the ELand Han River Cruises. There are a few to choose from so make sure you check the times to get the right one. There’s a moonlight one which actually departs right around sunset time in the summer which is more moon in the spring. There are some earlier options for spring and autumn too though. This is a great option and a super fun way to enjoy the city.
You can book tickets on their cruises on Trazy or on book your cruise on Klook.

Mountain Tops
World Cup Park: Sky Park/Haneul Park (μλ컡곡μ, νλ곡μ)
Already mentioned for the riverside park, but World Cup Park also has the popular Sky Park/Haneul Park. Usually popular in the autumn, you can visit the rest of the year for sunset views too though. While I tend to head down to the riverside in the autumn when this spot is more popular, I head up to the top in the summer and in late autumn for the views.
It’s beautiful up there but a bit more when the crowds of the autumn festival aren’t there. Plan your visit wisely.

Namsan Mountain (λ¨μ°)
A popular mountain to visit in Seoul and easily visited due to the cable car that takes visitors up, I always recommend a visit here just before evening to get views of the city from day into night. Head to Namsan Mountain and then up even further to Namsan Tower for some of the best views out over the city of Seoul at sunset. This spot can be pretty busy at times, but it’s still worth a visit and gets on to must see lists every year for a reason. Don’t miss this romantic location.
- If you want to take the cable car up and go up the tower, make sure you get your tickets online to take advantage of the discounts. They also have great packages on Coupang for N Seoul Tower and the restaurants there from time to time as well.

Namhansanseong Fortress (λ¨νμ°μ±)
This is one of those spots that a lot of photographers head to for some of the best shots of the sunset out over the city. You’ll be able to include Lotte Sky Tower, Namsan Tower, and a ton of beautifully lit up buildings. I’ve only been during the day as Namhansanseong is on the complete other side of the city from me so I opt for Haengjusanseong Fortress if I want to walk along a fortress ridge, but this is one to note if you really want to go hard on sunsets this year.
It’s not the easiest place to get to, but it’s not the hardest either. Here is more information about the Namhansanseong Fortress.
- Address: 731 Namhansanseong-ro, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do (κ²½κΈ°λ κ΄μ£Όμ λ¨νμ°μ±λ©΄ λ¨νμ°μ±λ‘ 731 (λ¨νμ°μ±λ©΄))
Haengjusanseong Fortress (νμ£Όμ°μ±)
This fortress is a bit less popular than the one mentioned above, but that’s why I’ve enjoyed it and the views you can get from up there. Located on the northwest side of the city, it’s exactly opposite from Namhansanseong Fortress so offers a very different view but still beautiful.
If you live on the west side of the city, try this fortress first because it’ll probably be a bit easier to get to. I even went up the first time with my daughter in a stroller… it’s that easy to walk up. Here’s more information about Haengjusanseong Fortress.
- Address: 89 Haengju-ro 15beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do (κ²½κΈ°λ κ³ μμ λμꡬ νμ£Όλ‘15λ²κΈΈ 89)
Bugak Mountain: Bugak Palgakjeong (λΆμ νκ°μ )
I used to be quite the hiker… and then I had a kid and my time isn’t just my time anymore. Now, I look for mountaintops that I can drive up to or get a cable car to for views. Along the Bugak Skyway which heads over Bugak Mountain, there is a rest stop of sorts called the Bugak Palgakjeong which offers 360 degree views of the valleys in the surrounding area. It’s just as beautiful to look at as it is to look out too. Just check out that gorgeous octagonal pavilion.

Building Tops & Observatories
Seoul Express Bus Terminal (κ³ μν°λ―Έλμ)
Most people have made there way through Seoul Express Bus Terminal at some time on their travels to regional spots in the country. But, did you know you can head to the (almost) rooftop for views and coffee? Head up to the 10th floor the next time you’re passing through and see what you can see. If you’re in time for sunset, you’ll get to see sights like this.
- Address: 194 Sinbanpo-ro, Seocho-gu, Seoul (μμΈνΉλ³μ μμ΄κ΅¬ μ λ°ν¬λ‘ 194)
63 Building (63λΉλ©)
The 63 Building is another good spot to get views out over the river and the city. This is also a great spot to visit if you have kids and want to do a bit more. You can visit the aquarium that’s there as well as see their art exhibition. Just a bit more to do here than taking in the view… but that’s obviously why you should go.
- Get your ticket to the observatory online if you want to see the aquarium as well so you can get a discount. This is another spot that offers different packages on tickets via Coupang. Sometimes you can get a coffee for free if you visit or a discount on a meal, so look into it if you are a Coupang user.
- Address: 50 63-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul (μμΈνΉλ³μ μλ±ν¬κ΅¬ 63λ‘ 36)
Sewoon Market (μΈμ΄μκ°)
After a beautiful renovation, Sewoon Market/Sewoon Sangga in downtown Seoul which overlooks nearby Jongmyo Shrine and offers views of N Seoul Tower, has a beautiful rooftop that is free to visit. It’s one of the best places in downtown Seoul to get views and if you happen to be passing by near sunset, just head up the elevator for a quick view out over the city.
Address: 136 Cheonggyecheon-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul (μμΈμ μ€κ΅¬ μ²κ³μ²λ‘ 136)
Lotte Sky Tower Observatory
Also in the Lotte World Tower (λ‘―λ°μλνμ) along with the amazing Signiel Hotel and their champagne bar, this is a reason that most tourists and visitors visit the tallest building in the country. The views are absolutely spectacular and the Seoul Sky Observatory has multiple floors as well as a basement entrance that is pretty fun too.
- If you want to visit Seoul Sky, make sure to buy your ticket online to get a discount on the trip. If you want to visit Lotte Sky Tower along with the Lotte Aquarium and the Lotte Amusement Park, then look into getting the Songpa L Pass for a pretty big discount on all three!
- Address: 300 Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu Seoul (μμΈνΉλ³μ μ‘νꡬ μ¬λ¦Όν½λ‘ 300)
