Raph&Remy: The Sustainable Baby Onesies, Swaddles & More Made From Bamboo

Always looking for more sustainable and eco-friendly options, I was delighted recently when Raph&Remy reached out and asked if I’d check out their premium bamboo baby essentials. I’ve had no problem finding more sustainable options for myself like my favorite Allbirds Shoes or the compostable phone cases from Pela, but, I find that kids items are always lacking. Even though my little lady is five and growing, my closest besties here in Korea are having their bundles of joys so I said absolutely. Maybe I can get them a gift? Let me check out these chic and sustainable baby essentials that are made from BAMBOO!

Raph&Remy: Sustainable Bamboo Baby Products

I don’t remember ever seeing clothing made from bamboo when Ava was an infant but I was definitely searching high and low for anything that would be more eco-friendly. Getting hand-me-downs worked wonders for sustainability but there are always a few special pieces that you really want new and that maybe you can pass down too.

Raph&Remy has some just gorgeous and high-quality products that make for great gifts at a baby shower, to a new mom, or just for your own child.

How It All Began

Raph&Remy is a family owned business run out of Singapore. The multicultural couple with an Aussie mum and a Brit dad was inspired by the gap the parents saw in the market for people looking for high quality, sustainable, chic, and beautifully packaged products that are also affordable.

Are they beautifully packaged? OMG Yes! Seriously, if you’re looking for the perfect gift that is already packaged beautifully upon arrival, this is the one! Not to mention how amazing the products inside the box actually are too.

Tiffany Okumu is a passionate mother of two that was inspired by her sons and wanted to create the absolute best products that she would actually use. Looking to stay home with her sons, she wanted to create her own business around something she was passionate about and it just so happened that was her children.

Moms finding inspiration from their children may be nothing new, but these adorable and chic bamboo onesies sure are. The mother seeks to create useful, high-quality and very elegant products and I, for one, think she definitely hits the mark.

Sustainable & Renewable

For parents today, it’s ultra important to be aware of the impact we have on our earth especially if we want an earth that our children’s children can enjoy. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth and is able to grow over 1 meter per day. That means it’s ultra renewable. Unlike cotton, bamboo rarely needs to be replanted.

Visit places in Korea like the popular Juknokwon Bamboo Forest or the Taehwagang River Bamboo Forest and you can really see and learn more about this renewable, and also beautiful, resource. Bamboo absorbs carbon dioxide and releases 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than hardwood trees too so the more bamboo forests, the better.

Bamboo also helps to relieve stress, relax muscles, soothe the mind and increase happiness and improve brain function as you walk in the forests. Bamboo produces

The bamboo used in the production of Raph&Remy products is grown organically in the mountains of Asia without fertilizers or pesticides and flourishes with rainwater. It’s a sustainable self sufficient crop that requires less than one-third the amount of water to grow cotton.

Tiffany is so involved that she oversees the entire manufacturing process to ensure that the high quality of the bamboo goes straight into high quality products and that’s exactly what you want to see when you’re getting something for your infant.

The Fabric

After it’s harvested and cut into raw bamboo chunks, the bamboo is soaked, dehydrated, flattened, and ground down into a soft feathery material to be spun into a viscose yarn which produces a pretty luxurious and soft fabric perfect for a baby… well and an adult honestly. It is OEKO-TEX100 certified to be free of harmful chemicals so the fabric is non-irritating and won’t cause allergic reactions.

It’s really just soft soft soft to the touch and super lightweight as well. I really wish these existed when Ava was little because they are so comfortable feeling and lush at the same time.

Bamboo fabric has micro-gaps which help with ventilation which makes it really perfect for a tropical climate and definitely great for the super humid summers here in Korea and elsewhere. The fabric traps the cool air when it’s warmer and warm air when it’s cooler so it helps regulate the baby’s body temperature.

Bamboo is 40% more absorbent than the finest organic cotton as well so it naturally wicks moisture away from the baby’s skin, keeps babies cooler, drier, and cleaner. There’s pretty much nothing else you could possibly want out of a baby onesie that’s for sure. Is this the best onesie for a hot humid climate? I would have to say yes.

Right now, we’re in one of the longest monsoon seasons on record in Korea, and these onesies are the perfect clothing attire for the damp at times chilly, and at times very hot weather season.

The Design

As someone who went through the onesie phase onto the clothing phase, I can still remember what it was like getting those wriggly legs into the feet and then watching as my child, who has pretty long limbs compared to her Korean counterparts, could no longer fit into the legs and arms of the onesies but had room to spare in the belly.

These onesies are fantastic in that they have footsies but they can also be rolled down to open so the feet can come entirely out. If they’re in, the bottom of the feet have grips just in case they want to take a few steps too. The onesies use zippers which are also way easier to maneuver on a wriggling kiddo than 10 tiny snaps. Baby Nari was in and out of the onesies easily and without fuss, because you know they start to get really fussy if there is a lot of messing around with their clothes. None of that here!

Overall, I think the design of the products is really smart and well-done and I’m not surprised since a mother of two was the one designing them. Tiffany knows exactly what a baby onesie needs to be and this hits the very comfortable mark. It was so comfortable, Nari fell asleep in the third one and wouldn’t be roused for some time and that’s exactly what you want to see.

I think it’s also worth mentioning that the colors of everything are just so beautiful, vibrant, and vivid. They’re just the right colors/shades too.

Personalized Products

One thing that I found absolutely adorable about the products is that they are able to be personalized! Get your babe’s name on the bow, the swaddle, or the blanket. It immediately upgrades the product and makes for a beautiful gift too. It’s something that you’ll want to keep and let it grow with your child. Ava decided since she wouldn’t be swaddled anymore, she could use hers as a cape!

It’s fun to see how things can grow with your children and let them enjoy finding and feeling their name on the pieces. Getting something personalized just means the person that receives it will want to keep it for longer, get more use out it and definitely put it away in that keepsake box for later.

Giving Back

Raph&Remy donates 20% of the sales off of their eco-friendly reusable premium tote bags to The Red Pencil a Singapore based Humanitarian Mission. The charity seeks to bring the benefits of arts therapy including drawing, music, movement, and dance to children and low-income families that have been through traumatic life circumstances including life-threatening illnesses, violence, and abuse.

Final Thoughts

I can’t change history and go back to when Ava was a little bitty one and could wear these baby essentials, but I absolutely think that any baby today should and could use these amazing sustainably produced bamboo baby essentials. While my little may not be so little anymore, she still absolutely the adored the bow headbands with her name on them and has been rocking them ever since and the blanket and swaddle make for the perfect companions for our day trips.

In a humid climate like Korea, the air conditioner is full blast in so many places which means we’re hot outside and freezing inside so can we use these blankets when we’re on the go? Absolutely and we shall.
