Hidden Gems In The Hip Hannam District In Seoul
Hannam district, or Hannam-dong, has quickly become a hot spot hangout for the locals looking for intricately well designed restaurants and cafes alongside some artistic and musical venues to inspire. The neighborhood near Itaewon can be enjoyed from morning until night and should be.
The district has always had airs of international inspirations what with the roads lined with embassies, but with the influx of music performance spaces along with the ever popular art museums in the area and now surrounded by chic cafes and local design and lifestyle shops, this is a classy hip place to hang out a bit different from the younger boozy streets of Itaewon just up the road and a bit more low key than the flashy Cheongdam District across the river.
There are plenty of hidden spots to find in this district in central Seoul, Korea. Here are some that you should go seeking for inspiration and fun.

Where To Stay
Hannam-dong and the nearby Itaewon district make a great area to stay in if you want to have a lot of foreign food options nearby. It’s also pretty central so if you’re planning on splitting your time between Gangnam and Apgujeong and the historic areas in Jongno-gu like Bukchon Hanok Village and the palaces, it’s a great option.
Grand Hyatt
A great place to stay right down in the popular Itaewon area in the center of Seoul is the Grand Hyatt. It’s a fantastic hotel with an indoor and outdoor pool and sits on a hilltop that provides a gorgeous view of the city. I’ve been there numerous times for events over the years and the staff are super helpful and kind. I’ve had family stay here as well when they visit and loved it.

Imperial Palace Boutique
If you’d rather stay on the busy Itaewon strip which is a bit closer to the subway stations and public transportation, check out the Imperial Palace Boutique. It’s a bit quirky but elegant and chic as well. It’s got a younger vibe with the amenities you want in a hotel. Have a great stay in Seoul!

Fun Fact: Hannam-dong got its name from the area’s proximity to the Han River and Namsan Tower.

World Of A Wanderer (@worldofawander)
Oh wow! I lived in SoKo last year, but I was in a very rural area down south. I frequented Seoul as often as I could, but never discovered any of these gems! I guess I would have had to have ventured outside the typical spots like Itaewon to discover them haha. I love to go back and visit some of these places, especially Stradeum.

The architecture of that first building is out of this world! I’m not normally one for art museum but I would love this one with its modern pieces. Different than how I would have pictured Seoul.

I checked Imperial Palace Boutique Hotel and it looks so cool and trendy! I totally love boutique hotels and I saved this one in case I visit Seoul sometime soon.
I also love modern museums and installations. They are a great way to see how we change every day.

This definitely looks like a little hipster area! I don’t think I’m cool enough to be a hipster, but I can tell only by the look of it that I would love it! The Leeum Samsung Museum Of Art looks really beautiful and intriguing. I love art museums and I could sit in Cafe Focasa for hours getting work done or chatting with a good friend.
