Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas From My Family to Yours
Twas Christmas morning
and all through the house
were the sounds of laughter and glee
from me, to our new baby and even my spouse.
Of course we’d awoken
a couple times in the night
to cries from the little one
but nothing would keep us from smiling bright.
We’d invited some friends
to join us for a drink and a meal
and soon they’d be here
to eat, sing and squeal.
Ornaments were hung in the window with care
and a little tree sat on the table just there.
Our little babe was dressed anew,
got a massage and a clean diaper too.
We’d cooked the potatoes
and the meat was ready.
Hopefully everyone had brought a dish to share
or else we’d be eating spaghetti.
It was okay,
it was alright,
our friends would understand
it would be a good night.
Because I’d just had a baby in November
it was difficult to find time or even remember
to decorate the house and of course clean it too,
but isn’t that what babies do?
They’re just so cute,
even when they’re crying,
the time had gotten away from me,
it had really been flying.
I hadn’t been outside,
except to take short walks,
I was super excited
to see some my friends and have some talks.
The baby was awake all from 8 until 1,
which meant I hadn’t had time to get anything done.
The friends arrived
and easily understood.
They would help us prepare
and do what they could.
We scarfed down the food
with merriment and delight.
We played some fun games
and I showcased my competitive might.
We opened some gifts
and we laughed together.
It was truly a merry time
despite the cold weather.
Santa even came
to meet our newest little one.
He gave her a Rudolph keepsake
so that even she could have some fun.
It was a great holiday together
and even though they aren’t technically family,
it felt like it should
and went by quite happily.
