Jeju In Spring: Where To See Jeju’s Famous Canola Flowers

Last Updated on February 25, 2026

Most people think spring has arrived when the cherry blossoms bloom. But if you live in Jeju like I do, you know spring actually begins in a bath of vibrant yellow. Tiny golden blooms spill across farmlands, climb volcanic hills, and frame the sea and the oreums of Jeju Island in the most cinematic way.

Every year from mid-February through the end of April, Jeju canola flowers bloom overlapping with the camellias of winter and the cherry blossoms of later spring. The canola flower blooming season lasts longer than cherry blossom season, much longer.

When is Canola Flower Season in Jeju?

Mid-February through late April

Jeju’s mild climate means the island blooms earlier than the mainland. I saw the first canola flowers this year in mid-February! What’s interesting about the canola flowers on Jeju Island is that the different areas bloom at different times.

  • Sanbangsan area (southwest Jeju): Mid-February – March
  • Seongsan area (southeast Jeju): Late-February through April
  • Pyoseon and inland areas: March – April

The staggered blooming periods is actually a gift. No matter when you visit in the spring, you can find yellow fields somewhere on the island.

Another bonus of seeing canola flowers on Jeju Island is that they overlap with other blooms. Visit earlier and you can see the beautiful red camellia flowers, come a bit later and you can see the plum blossoms and cherry blossoms.

Why are Canola Flowers so Famous in Jeju?

Canola or rapeseed plants are useful. The seeds produce oil and the young greens are sometimes eaten, too. But in Jeju, they’ve become a symbol of spring.

Against black volcanic stone walls, deep green barley fields, and the blue sea, the yellow flowers pop in a way that feels almost unreal. Add a cone-shaped oreum, volcanic hill, or dramatic coastal cliffs in the background and you have that classic Jeju postcard moment.

Fun Fact: The canola flower fields of Jeju Island have been featured in Korean dramas including When Life Gives You Tangerines, Warm and Cozy, and Welcome to Samdal-ri.

Best Canola Flower Spots in Jeju

Here are the most beautiful and photogenic places to see Jeju canola flower fields this spring in Korea. Oh, but don’t be surprised to realize that there are canola fields just everywhere. If you spot a field as you’re driving, pull over… just be respectful that they are owned by farmers so don’t ruin the crop.

There are free fields and paid photography gardens that stretch from Gwanchigi Beachside area to Seongsan Ilchulbong. The contrast between the bright yellow flowers and the dramatic volcanic tuff cone is stunning. Visit Seongsan Ilchulbong in the morning and then find the flower fields for a stunning experience.

We visited in the evening and enjoyed the fields that faced north so we could take advantage of that sunlight. There are many fields in this area and plenty of parking lots so find the one nearest to where you want to go.

Sanbangsan, Jeju Island; canola flowers

Sanbangsan Canola Flower Fields

Located in southwestern Jeju, near Sanbangsan and Yongmeori Coast, this is one of the earliest blooming canola flower spots on the island. From late winter into spring, fields spread out beneath the towering rock face of Sanbangsan. Find a flower field in full bloom, pull over, and enjoy the views.

Do note that this is a very popular area to see flowers so don’t be surprised by full parking lots and crowds. Definitely make sure to visit the temples on Sanbangsan and taking a walk along the coast in this area though. You could spend a few hours here enjoying the coming of spring. Just take your time.

  • Address: Sanbangsan Public Parking Lot, 163-1 Sagye-ri, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do (제주도 서귀포시 안덕면 사계리 163-1)

Noksan-ro Canola Flower Road in Gasiri

Often called one of the “100 most beautiful roads in Korea,” Noksan-ro or “Jeju Canola Flower Road” in Gasiri is just up the road from us and definitely deserves the title. For about 10 kilometers, yellow fields stretch along the road. By late March, cherry blossoms bloom overhead like popcorn exploding into white clouds over yellow lanes.

Park at the Gasiri Jorangmal Experience Center and you can ride a horse through the fields too. It’s a dreamy spring drive. There are pull offs along the road so as you drive, be careful for pedestrians and people taking everything in. I recommend going to the actual parking lots and walking on the path near the trees. Don’t walk in the street if you can help it.

The Hueree Nature Life Park is curated to stun. This family-friendly park features flowers, curated gardens, the popular Jeju black pigs, and traditional games to play. A huge canola flower field that is planted each spring with views out to Hallasan almost guarantees stunning photos. Not free but worth the fee.

Seongeup Folk Village (성읍민속마을), Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, Korea; Korean folk village, Hanok; canola flowers

Seongeup Folk Village in Pyoseon

Generally an overlooked part of the island, Seongeup Folk Village used to be the administrative capital of the island. The fortress which is still inhabited today is beautiful and if you visit in the spring, canola flowers grow in both the interior and along the exterior lava stone rock walls. There are also camellia flowers and cherry blossoms to find here too.

This is a quiet area to explore which makes it more appealing from some of the other places on this list in my opinion.

Seoubong Trail at Hamdeok

This small hill beside the sea is also part of Jeju Olle Trail Course 19. In the spring, its slopes are covered in canola flowers. The walking path loops about 2.5 kilometers and is easy to follow. This one, requiring a walk, means it’s not as busy as some of the other fields which can be accessed with just a quick hop out of a car. Come at sunset for the most magical light.

  • Address: Parking lot, 250-2 Hamdeok-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do (제주도 제주시 조천읍 함덕리 250-2)

I still have more spots to check out this year and if they are just as beautiful as these spots… I’ll add them to the list. Until then, enjoy the beautiful canola fields of Jeju Island.
