There are some great things to see in Gapyeong and among them sit some fun family-friendly farms where you can see and feed animals like sheep. If you’ve been wondering where to go for just such an experience, check out the Gapyeong Sheep Farm (가평양떼목장) which also features the very nicely designed Cloud Hill cafe.

Feed some fuzzy friends, eat some cakes, and breathe in the fresh air of Gapyeong in Gyeonggi-do. It’s the adventure into nature you need this weekend.

First Impressions at Cloud Hill

The first thing that drew me to this particular sheep farm was actually the cafe. As we all know, Korea has a vibrant and fun cafe culture. This one stood out as they could have easily created a rustic farm-style space in the mountains of Gapyeong, which would have been fitting with the sheep for sure. But instead, they went with a space that is more modern and yet curves with the scenery in a beautiful way.

As you ascend the hill, the Cloud Hill Cafe sits at the top and has beautiful views out over the area. The glass walls really let you take advantage of the views from any seat. You can either sit down for a snack first, or and more likely if you have kids, you’ll head straight out to find the friendly sheep and furry bunnies, alpacas, and donkeys.

Don’t forget to treat yourself to the delectable desserts at the Cloud Hill Cafe afterward though.

Feeding Friendly Sheep

The sheep are not just charming but incredibly friendly, allowing you to get up close, pet them, and even feed them hay.

Upon arrival, proceed to the ticket booth and choose between a general admission ticket or a drink-inclusive ticket. Make sure you keep the hay exchange voucher included with your ticket so you can exchange it after going through the cafe, down the hill, and down to the hay collection booth though. You do NOT want to lose that voucher.

The paved paths make it stroller-friendly, allowing you to explore the ranch with ease if you’ve got little ones. You can walk past donkeys, alpacas, bunnies, and sheep too of course. There are sheep located in pens which your kids that might not want to get run up on by sheep can feed them from instead. Or, head to the big open pen which you can walk into.

There were just as many thrilled kids inside as there were scared ones though, so do be mindful of your kids and let them decide if they’re ready to be inside. The sheep can be a bit happily aggressive accidentally as they are just very big compared to kiddos and since they know there is food in those brown bags, they will chase a kid down to get it.

After feeding the sheep, step out of the big pen to meet some friendly alpacas. They weren’t really interested in the hay, but did meander over to see if we had any carrots or food for them. Not as many alpacas as Alpaca World also out in this region, but always a crowd pleaser in Korea.

Gapyeong Sheep Farm is more than just a cafe, it’s got nature, animals, and family-friendly fun, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a break from the routine of Seoul. And bonus, it’s accessible via public transportation!
