The Start of Splendor

Jeju LAF opened in 2018 and seems from an article I found to have been meant to stay open until the end of 2019 only but it was so popular, it has kept its artistic and colorful doors open. That seems to happen at times in Korea.

Jeju Light Art Festa (LAF) stands as a beacon of creativity and innovation. This indoor and outdoor art park, inaugurated by lead artist Bruce Munro, is a unique blend of immersive installations, sculptures, and event-based works that explore the mesmerizing medium of light. On top of that, there is a footbath experience and ziplining for the adventurous members of your group. It really has something for everyone and makes for a great place to spend an afternoon on Jeju Island.

Explore Artistic Wonder

There is a lot to see as soon as you walk into Jeju LAF. It’s all very colorful. There are installations inside and outdoors and after paying the entrance fee, you’ll receive a map to wander through the spaces, even going outside, back inside, and then out. At one point, we were sure we’d taken a wrong turn but the doors were open and the art was there so we continued to wander. It’s a lot of fun and exploration suffice to say.

There’s a lot to see, but there are some standouts that you’ll want to spend time in and around on the inside before you head outside. At the entrance you’ll take in all of the blown up fun bears which you can write on, too. Get a map and check out all of the artworks.

Light Tapdance by Dr. Martens

‘LIGHT TAPDANCE’ presented by Dr.Martens X LAF is an exhibition in the form of a show-room, creating a dreamy mood through music, neon lights, and Dr. Martens shoes densely installed along the walls and floor. The whole thing will make you want to dance… and go shopping.

Odumak by Tom Fruin

A piece in the ICON series by Tom Fruin, Odumak is the fourth installation and in shape of a house. This work is designed to provide an experience from diverse viewpoints and is meant to be moved each season, appearing on water at times and on the ground at times.

Jeju LAF (제주라프), Jeju, Korea; Limo Land by Jean Pigozzi

Limo Land by Jean Pigozzi

After Mr. Limo and Ms. Limo’s accidental landing on Jeju Island, enamored by the beautiful landscape, they settled in Jeju’s natural cave system and applied their unique visual and culture into the space called Limo Land. Limo Land is a fashion lable founded from thirst for its colorful and casual taste. It integrates his unique sense accumulated by coming across various colors, prints, and collecting worldwide art works when traveling around the globe for decades.

Head Outdoors

Outside, there is a cave system with lights and artworks here and there. I’m not sure if there’s an actual path to be honest, because we couldn’t figure it out and sort of just found our way in and out of things but weren’t exactly sure if we were going about things correctly. It was a bit funny. There wasn’t anyone else outside at the time so it was humorous to us.

Aside from the light works and installations, there are also creatures outside that our little lady had fun finding. And if anyone in your crew is big enough, there is also LAFLY. We didn’t do the ziplining because our little person was too light but there are four zipline courses for anyone interested.

  • Course 1: The Cedar Forest Crossing is an intermediate level course that runs 171 meters.
  • Course 2: The Green Tea Field is an intermediate level course that runs 174 meters.
  • Course 3: Go Over The Pond in this beginner course that is 52 meters long.
  • Course 4: The longest course is The Scenery and Relaxation of Jeju course and is 223 meters long.
