Aqulabo: The Face Mist & Kombucha Toner You Can’t Miss!

When looking for new Korean skincare or beauty brands to try, what is it you look for? If you’re like me, you mostly work off of recommendations because I know there are people around me that just have that insider pass to what’s new and what’s going on in Korean beauty.

Aqulabo is a brand that first came onto my radar when I attended an event by the KBeauty Collective here in Seoul. I’ve now used their products for more than a year so I feel like I can really say that their Mask Boosting Jelly Mist and Kombucha Toner are definitely two of my favorite products to use in my routine regularly. Want to add something new to your beauty routine? Check out these KBeauty products.

Aqulabo

Aqulabo Mask Boosting Jelly Mist Review

What Is It: Face Mist

Aqulabo Jelly Mist

The Jelly Mist is an innovative 100% EWG Green Grade gel-to-liquid facial mask to boost effectiveness of skincare products and adjusts the pH balance of your skin and strengthens the skin barrier. There are no fragrances.

It’s a highly concentrated brightening essence in a jelly substance that seems to magically turn to a spray when you press the spritzer. This product is meant to do four things which include: providing refreshing exfoliation, strengthen the skin barrier, adjusting the skin PH balance, and boosing absorption which is why it’s recommended for use before masking.

When To Use: The recommended use is immediately after washing the face or shower in the morning and the evening. After cleansing, spray the Jelly Mist directly on the face and neck and pat with the hands. Use the mist prior to using a mask to boost effectiveness. Also recommended for use before sheet masks.

My Thoughts: The Jelly Mist was something that took me a little while to jump on board with. I think it was just because it looked like a jelly but was a mist. It just seemed odd. While other ladies in the collective were raving about the ingenuity, I was trying to decide if I liked the innovation. It looks like a gel in the bottle but comes out all misty. Good thing I moved past first impressions though because it has become a real break out star for me. I wasn’t really a ‘mister’, or into misting before this product, but now I use it every day, especially now that it’s hot. I think based on its appearance, I just expected it to be far more globby and heavy than it really is. It’s very light and airy really.

Aqulabo recommends that you use it before you use a sheet mask. I don’t sheet mask all that often so have taken to using it during my routine. It’s a fine mist that doesn’t soak my face but is the perfect dewy fresh feeling. I use it in the morning and works really well before I put on my make-up. As someone who has dry skin and gets uncomfortable if I wait too long between washing my face and applying toner, I definitely feel more hydration effects when I use this.

Aqulabo Kombucha Toner Review

What Is It: Toner

Aqulabo Kombucha Toner

The Kombucha Toner is infused with 88% fermented black tea water. It’s rich in polyphenol and other vitamins and minerals. The toner is meant to clarify the skin and tighten pores while hydrating, leaving the skin refreshed and balanced.

Kombucha contains probiotics, organic acids, minerals, and vitamins and adds that to this toner. Fermented products are great for our health both when we eat them and when we apply them to our skin. The basis of this toner is Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water which is a source of polyphenols, flavonoids, and catechins. It’s an antioxidant which is good for both dry and oily skin and helps with acne due to its antibacterial properties.

I’ve talked about fermentation used in Korean skincare products before with Wish Formula’s Fermented Hydra Ceramide Lotion and Fermented Hydra Essential Toner. Similarly, Aqulabo uses the benefits of the fermentation process in their products with the Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate and Lactobacillus/Honeysuckle Flower Extract Ferment Filtrate. The first one is a humectant which helps with acne and post-acne pigmentation. Don’t underestimate the power of fermentation both for your insides and outsides.

When To Use: After washing your face and before other ampoules/serums, etc.

My Thoughts: The toner is thick and super hydrating which is something that I personally look for in toners. Some watery toners can make my skin really dried out after use while this one makes my skin very supple. Even though it’s thick, it still feels lightweight on. I use it primarily on days when my skin is feeling a bit dehydrated and I need a supple pick-me-up. I’ve used it in the evening before I go to bed and wake up looking very refreshed but have also used it in the morning and it goes on easily beneath make-up. This toner is definitely in my top 3 hydrating supple toners perfect for my dry skin. If you’re like me and can’t get through all 7 steps of a Korean skincare routine but only do a couple, use this toner which takes care of a few of the skin issues I have in one go.

If you’re only going to buy one Aqulabo product right now, this is the one I would recommend purchasing.

Aqulabo Vinyasa Calming Serum Review

What Is It: Serum

Aqulabo Vinyasa Calming Serum

Contains 61.1% Lotus Flower Water and improves energy flow in the skin to get a clearer and brighter complexion with a smooth texture. This is a concentrated serum that is effective in treating sensitive skin with antioxidant ingredients such as polyphenol and vitamin C.

The serum protects the skin against UV rays and pollution and rejuvenates the skin. It’s a calming serum that goes on easily. Though it’s not called a Vitamin C serum, it actually contains natural vitamin C which is found in the lotus flowers so it’s a more gentler form than other vitamin C serums you may find out there which is great if you have sensitive skin.

When To Use: After your toner.

My Thoughts: The serum has a thicker than water, but not a gel, consistency. Because the toner is so hydrating, using this on top of it sort of left me feeling that this wasn’t nearly as effective however when I used it with other lesser hydrating toners, I noticed the qualities of this serum a bit more. It definitely made my skin tone and texture better. This calming serum really does have calming effects. That said, if you’re only going to buy one Aqulabo product, I’d recommend the toner over the serum though I did find the serum very effective as far as soothing my skin.
