Culture Day is a special day held at the end of every month in Korea to promote domestic tourism, and increase cultural experiences for the public by offering tickets, experiences, and attractions at discounted rates, or in some cases, completely for free!

If you’re visiting Korea at the end of the month or live here, be sure to make a note of when Culture Day will fall, and look into what discounts and freebies are available for you to take advantage of.

With over 2000 companies and partners participating in Culture Day, there are plenty of attractions and activities to choose from, whether you’re looking for a cultural experience (such as free entry to some of the palaces), or if you’re just looking to go enjoy a movie at the cinema!


What Discounts Can You Get on Culture Day in South Korea?

There are a lot of staple things to do at discounted rates or for free on Culture Day in Korea. Additionally, there are often special events and experiences as well which you need to find on the Culture Day website (unfortunately, the English website is just static info, so to see the varying and special events, you’ll need to look at the Korean information side of the website).

Discounted Movie Tickets

Cinema lovers are in luck on Culture Day, as all three major cinema chains in Korea offer discounted tickets! Enjoy W7,000 tickets to any 2D film at CGV, Megabox, or Lotte Cinema between 5:00pm and 9:00pm. Want something to do after work on Wednesday? This is the perfect evening out.

Discounted Music Experiences, Concerts, and Theater tickets

Great spots such as the Seoul Arts Center, and the National Gugak Center offer discounted admissions fees for exhibitions and performances taking place on Culture Day in Korea. If you’re looking for a traditional and culturally rich, immersive musical experience, be sure to check out what’s going on at these locations.

Discounted Admission to Aquariums

Aquariums make for an excellent option in the heat of the summer or on rainy days. There are some fantastic aquariums in Korea and if you’re a fan of them, then you’ll be pleased to know that both COEX Aquarium and Hanwha’s Aqua Planet boast discounted admission rates on Culture Day.

At COEX, you can get admission for only 20,00 after 5:00 pm, and at Aqua Planet, you can enjoy a 50% discount on your admission fee at the 63 Ilsan Branch.

How to Obtain Discounts on Culture Day in Korea

How you go about obtaining these discounts varies from place to place. For many places with free admission, simply enquire at the ticket counter or information desk when you arrive and they should let you in for free.

For anywhere with a discount, be sure to check the terms and conditions on the organization’s website before you go, just in case it applies to online bookings only or admission after a certain time. If you’re still unsure, you can always give them a call – most tourist hot spots in Korea have English-speaking staff who will be able to assist you.
