Stay At Home Activities For Kids

As a creative person myself, I have loved instilling the love of creation in my daughter. We have spent hours together cooking, dancing, crafting, and learning of course. It’s amazing how much can be learned in more fun and inspiring ways. Whether you’re homeschooling or just have the kids home for the summer, these are great stay at home activities for kids. Great things to do with kids on rainy days and great things just to do together.

Gardening For Kids

It’s a great time to get the kids outside and active in the garden. Or if you live in an apartment like us, grab some window boxes and introduce the kiddos to gardening on the veranda or rooftop. Gardening is a great opportunity to teach children about the plant life cycle, a garden habitat and all of the bugs and creepy crawlers that help us, photosynthesis, and a ton more.

On our own gardening journey, I created this gardening activity book for young learners (pics above). Check it out if you have a young learner and want a supplement to your discussions on germination, seedlings, and more. We got our boxes done and planted two weeks ago with lettuce and strawberries because that’s all that our plant lady had at the time. She said tomatoes and other veg would come in later. Lettuce and strawberries suit us just fine though.

Gardening is also great to get a bit of a routine as you need to make sure you water every day and check on the seeds and seedlings. Start with this in the morning and while you’re in the sun and light, do some positive affirmations and stretching to really get the day off right.

Raddish Cooking Subscription Service For Kids

This has been one of our favorite things to do together and is a great way to spend time at home. Cooking is also a great way to practice those maths/numbers too, if you’re looking for some more educational bonus points.

We’ve been doing Rad.Dish for a year and it’s amazing. No joke, our daughter can definitely make better chicken Parmesan than I could ever make because of this program. The recipes come on great laminated pages so the kiddos can spill anything on them and they’re fine. The recipes use pictures so it’s clear for younger ones that can’t read yet what they need to do. Each box also comes with supplemental activities that lead to great discussion on helpful topics like kitchen safety, history of various cuisines, etc. Each box also comes with a great easy to use kitchen tool. I really can’t say more good things about this. We LOVE Rad.dish and know you will too!

Get your Rad.dish here. If you’re in Korea, you will have to use a mail service like Fishisfast since Rad.dish doesn’t ship abroad yet. You could get a couple/few months of boxes to Fishisfast and then ship them all in one go to you here. Works out great.

We absolutely love Raddish, but if you want to ship abroad and don’t want to deal with the intermediary, I did find another option that you could use.

Eat2Explore Subscription Boxeat2exploreThis monthly subscription box is inspired by cuisines from around the world. Each box contains a recipe, an essential spice/sauce/grain mix you might not be able to find where you are, activity sheets, shopping lists, and a cooking tool as well as collectibles from the various countries and regions on theme. This one sounds really fun to try.

Cosmic Kids Yoga

I like getting my stretch on, but it’s super important for kids to get their stretch on too. At our daughter’s kindergarten, they used to stretch each morning and then of course had gym a few days a week too. Since we’ve been home more, I’ve wanted to make sure she’s getting active and Cosmid Kids Yoga is just amazing. The interactive videos bring together yoga, mindfulness and relaxation with fun adventures and stories. They’re easy to follow along and if you’re an adult going along with your child, you can get a stretch in too!

Check out the Cosmic Kids Yoga channel here.

Arts & Crafts

In our house we don’t usually have any shortage of inspiration and creation. I love photography and crafts and my daughter picked that up easily and now wakes up with her own ideas for something artistic. However, we do love to check out some of our favorite crafts sites for inspiration like Art Camp – LA and Red Ted Art.

Because I already liked arts and crafts, I had quite the collection of things to work with and of course a lot of your household trash is really a treasure. That said, if you don’t have much of an art bone and want the perfect amount of goods and directions too, look into an art subscription. It’s fun to get mail and then you know what to do too since they come with easy to follow instructions.

Here are some options I think look great and are a collaboration with other subjects which is great if you’re like me and have an indefinite period of time to keep your kindergartner inspired:

Scavenger Hunt Coloring Book For Kids

Another fun activity book I created to keep the motivation and exploration going. Get ready to embark on an educational journey with the Scavenger Hunt Coloring Book for Kids. This is a unique coloring book that combines creativity, vocabulary building, and exciting scavenger hunts, providing hours of engaging entertainment for your children or students.

The scavenger hunt lists can be utilized in various ways, whether you’re exploring the great outdoors or diving into captivating storybooks. Head to the seaside and use “The Seaside List” while reading a beach-themed storybook, or take “The Insect List” with you to a science museum. No matter where you are, these lists will add a great activity to your weekend routine or homeschooling lessons. We’ve had fun with them and know you will too.

Outside Time

Whether you’re spending time in your yard to get some sun, or going to the nearest mountain hike, definitely get out. We’ve been going to World Cup Park which is the largest park near us and the easiest to spread out in. The Seooreung Tombs park is also a great spot in our district. Look at your map and see where the nearest and largest green space is and take a walk. It’ll do you and your little person good.

Homer Reading

Homer Reading

Homer Reading has been AMAZING. We’ve only been doing it for three weeks but now when we’re speaking and our daughter hears two words with similar sounds, she immediately asks if it’s the same letter that is making those sounds. It’s really interesting to watch. Today she told me she knows how to spell ‘mom’ and ‘toy’ and then spelled the letters out with her fingers in the air.

If you’ve also got a little one and want to get them started on their ABCs, definitely look into this.

What programs are you using at home? Let me know! I’m always looking for great opportunities for our daughter to learn. What have you found to work for you?
