The Wonderful Service Helping Foreigners In Korea

It’s inevitable that there will come a time when you just cannot figure something out here in Korea and in those moments, a personal assistant that can point you in the right direction and then even do everything to get you set up would be the dream, right? Well, it doesn’t have to just be a dream.ย If you’ve been in Korea for some time, you’ve likely heard of Wonderful. Need a personal assistant in Korea? Need someone to help you do everything from ordering chicken for delivery or planning a weekend away?

The company started by Maria Lee, an American expat, was originally named Ask Ajumma. She saw a need and so she created a business to help her fellow community get what they want, when they want it and delivered wherever they might be.

The service has helped thousands of foreigners in Korea, tourists coming to Korea and corporate clients and they continue to push to help more people live the life they want to live. Maria has a team of foreigners and Koreans working with her so that every task can be completed.

I interviewed Maria to get more information on what she does, why and how she manages to get every request accomplished. From the mundane daily task to the extravagant party planning, she can do it… if you just ask. When I asked what services are most commonly requested, she said:

It really depends on the time of year and type of client – expat, tourist or businesses. Tourists ask for a lot of help with travel planning like booking ferry tickets, booking accommodations, help purchasing concert tickets and products, translations, making reservations, ordering food, etc.

For expats who live in Korea, we get a lot more day to day type requests like helping with booking housekeepers, movers, home appliance repair, buying furniture, dealing with delivery people, groceries, etc. Corporate clients ask for much more complicated and ongoing requests like market research, event planning, coordinating with local businesses, etc.

Did you guys read that? How many times have I seen on foreigner forums here people asking for help with movers, how to get a housekeeper and what to do to get an air conditioner cleaned? So so many.

Call Wonderful and enjoy a stress-free day.

While all of this sounds great and maybe just a bit too good to be true, I know the biggest question everyone has is how much it’ll cost. On this Maria said, “We’ve simplified pricing. Our new time-based method allows our clients a lot of flexibility, they only need to pay for the time they use – by the minute.” This is great for those short one time jobs you need ASAP, though I’m sure once you use the service, you’ll call them up again and again.

Notice the DISCOUNT on that image. If you’re a new customer and sign up soon, you can take advantage of the 25% discount per minute for the first FOUR hours that you use the Wonderful Service.

On pricing, Maria added that, “it’s a whole new way of pricing that is extremely transparent. Customers can track time usage anytime they want and can also set hard-time limits on tasks. For those who are on a budget, we recently publishedย tipsย on how to be more efficient when using our personal assistants.”

Those tips for being efficient with requests include things like:

Provide Details:

  • if you need help with making a reservation, provide the date, time, number of guests and any special requests at the onset.
  • If you want to buy something online and already know the website you want to use, share it with your designated assistant along with the quantity, color, size, flavor and the location and address for where you want the items delivered.

Be Organized:

  • if you have multiple requests, number them with the most important first. Each task will be tracked separately so you can see how much time has been put toward each.

Give a Hard Time Limit:

  • If you want to get price comparisons or do general research via your assistant, it can be helpful to give a time limit. This can be 2 hours or 30 minutes. It’s completely up to you and your assistant will get as much information as they can within that time.
  • You can always adjust your time limit after your assistant checks back in with you.

Since I’ve probably played up how easy it is to use the service for those simple tasks that are just annoying to figure out like who to call when there’s black mold on the wall or where to go to buy size 10 shoes, I want to offset that with really how much you can ask for. I asked Maria to tell me some of those oddball requests that she’s gotten and she told me there’s honestly something almost every day that they hadn’t heard before but are completely ready and willing to find and sort. For some examples, she said:

Here’s just a few off the top of my head that happened recently – Renting a Lamborghini, finding homes for a dozen baby hamsters, organizing Spiderman to deliver cupcakes to a birthday boy at school, researching how to build a house in Korea, buying 50 tickets for a baseball game for a company outing, researching the trap-neuter-release (TNR) program in Korea, planning a K-Pop concert (Involving coordinating the venue to inviting the performers and all the other little details necessary with putting a show together for 800 people).

So, what’s been your wildest dream in Korea? If you can dream it, Wonderful can make it happen.
