They work to create personalized natural ingredient based treatments for patients by doing professional diagnosis and testing. If you’re looking for Korean hair care, suffice to say, this is where you should start.

Traditional Remedies & Treatments

I’ve long been interested in Korean traditional medicine and culture so when I heard that Lee Moon Won focuses on traditional remedies and natural ingredients, I had to visit.

Natural ingredients utilized at the Lee Moon Won Hair Clinic:

Omija from Mungyeong: Also known as the “five-flavor berry”, omija enhances lung, liver, and kidney functions and various experiments have shown that using omija as a standalone remedy or in cobination with other ingredients has positive effects on improving hair loss conditions. Some research has also shown that omija can promote collagen synthesis, making it valuable for skin and hair health.

Camphor Trees from Jeju Island: Renowned for their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial , and blood circulation-enhancing effects, the Camphor tree contains a variety of compounds with distinctive cooling effects. Lee Moon Won utilizes this effect to lower scalp temperature to alleviate itching, and stimulate scalp blood circulation.

Ginger Blossoms from Hadong: Ginger tree blossoms promote collagen synthesis and possess antioxidant effects. Collagen is closely related to hair loss. As scalp collagen breaks down, the scalp becomes rigid and thinner leading to hair loss.

ginseng

Ginseng from Geumsan: A potent herbal remedy with a range of impressive effects, Lee Moon Won isn’t the only company in Korea to utilize Ginseng. One of my favorite Korean beauty companies, Sulwhasoo, is all about the Korean ginseng. Ginseng can enhance the immune system, stimulate the metabolism, promote new cell regeneration, and even has anti-cancer effects.

Ginseng has been shown to effectively address hair loss from various causes like menopause, thyroid dysfunction, anemia, and more.

Did you know: Traditionally, Korean women would wake and wash their hair with Calamus water on the day of Dano. The women who would help a bride dress and decorate her hair would carry 11 types of combs and various hair oils for hair care. All of these combs were made of non-toxic trees such as jujube, bamboo, and citron trees.

Maesaengi from Wando: A type of winter seaweed, it is rich in iron making it particularly beneficial for addressing issues with anemia and female hair loss caused by poor dietary habits. It can also help reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood and provides essential dietary fiber, promoting overall health and a balanced constitution.

Lee Moon Won has shown that Maesaengi can speed up hair growth and encourage the development of new hair follicles.

Danggui from Yeongwol: Known as the “Divine Herb for Women”, danggui stimulates the production of hemoglobin which improves anemia and enhances blood circulation. Anemia is the leading cause of hair loss in women so addressing anemia will go a long way in reducing hair loss and improving hair thickness.

Gosam from Yeoncheon: Gosam means “bitter ginseng” and can be used to treat seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, and hair loss.

camellia flowers, Korea

Camellia Flowers and Camellia Oil from Geoje Island: Camellia flower extract is anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic, making it effective in soothing sensitive skin. Suitable for both adults and children, application can relieve inflammation, itchiness, and redness on the scalp.

Chukbaekyeop in Danyang: This medicinal herb is known to reduce hair loss and darken hair. Studies have shown that this herb can promote hair growth by regulation cytokines. It also dilates capillaries to improve blood circulation. However, it does contain high amounts of essential oils, so if you’re prone to allergic reactions, be careful with this one.

My Regeneration Program Experience

I had a fantastic experience at the Lee Moon Won Hair Clinic. As a 40 year old, I have definitely noticed my hair thinning and noticed a lot of hair loss after having my daughter before that. I learned a lot about my scalp and how to better take care of my hair to hopefully maintain a better head of hair into the future.

Step One: Filling out the questionnaire.

After walking into the Lee Moon Won Clinic, check in and take the questionnaire where you can put all of your issues and questions. Take a look around if you have time as all of the natural ingredients utilized in the Lee Moon Won products are on beautiful display. There’s also a beautiful display of traditional Korean brushes.

Step Two: Scalp and hair structure diagnostic.

You’ve likely already signed up for the program that you’ll be having, but the diagnostic is great to see just what is going on with your scalp in a very close-up, maybe too close for comfort, way. Do your follicles have at least two strands of hair as they should? Or less? How does the scalp look.

Step Three: Relaxing and Calming Aromatherapy.

After the diagnostic, you’ll be taken to your room for the treatment. After changing into the provided clothing and laying on the table, the first step is to inhale the calming aromas to get started off comfortably.

Step Four: Scalp Massage To Improve Circulation.

From aroma therapy to a scalp massage, there is no way you won’t be relaxing for the entire experience. Take deep breaths and enjoy the experience.

Step Five: Scaling to Moisturize the Scalp and Hair.

If you’ve ever visited a Korean bath house and enjoyed one of the amazing skin exfoliating treatments, then you might realize at this step that you never got your scalp done like the entire rest of your body. I felt like this is probably something I need to continue.

The scaling process includes reducing and removing the accumulation of oil, sweat, dead skin cells, sebum, and products on the scalp. After the scaling, a gooey gel like product was placed on my head and then the steaming machine was turned on. I laid back for at least 30 minutes just letting my scalp be steamed.

Step Six: Radiofrequency Therapy for Hair Growth Stimulation.

A warm experience, the radiofrequency therapy was just as relaxing as everything that came before it and the clinician went over and over each area of my scalp in a well-trained manner not missing even a centimeter of scalp.

Step Seven: Relaxing Massage on the Shoulders and Neck for Stress Relief.

At this point, I was already as relaxed as could be, but just to up the ante, I received a great shoulder and neck massage before finishing on the table.

Step Eight: Hair Washing with Natural Shampoo to Stimulate Hair Growth

After the main treatments, you’ll step into a connected room to have your hair cleaned.
