What To Expect

I got the lowdown on the event straight from the two people with all of the details. See what Dr. Tony Garrett, Chairman of the Kiwi Chamber, and Sunny Myung, Board Director of the Kiwi Chamber and the Wine Festival Project Manager, had to say so you know what to look forward to and of course what to try!

This year is rather momentous for the event I hear…

Yes, of particular significance this year is that we are celebrating our 20th wine festival.  These events have become a mainstay on the calendar, events that like to balance fine food and wine with a relaxed NZ atmosphere. It makes me so proud to be part of it, and since the event has been run for so long, humbled by my predecessors in the Chamber to make it happen. ~ Dr. Tony Garrett, Chairman of the Kiwi Chamber

How many wineries will participate in this year’s events? Anything we should look forward to?

New Zealand wine sales have skyrocketed in the Korean market this year, reaching record highs with new varieties and wineries. The Festivals will unveil 20 award winning wineries from various regions of New Zealand. Some iconic wineries include Kim Crawford, Villa Maria and Two Rivers. All 20 wineries are world class and they each offer something different.

The vintages at both events will generally be 2020 and 2021. There will be new wines from Mission Estate and Craggy Range. You can always expect the best quality from them. New Zealand is known for itโ€™s iconic Sauvignon Blanc which is perfect for a summerโ€™s day. Pinot Noirs also share the spotlight and offer an elegant and sophisticated experience. ~ Sunny Myung, Board Director of the Kiwi Chamber and the Wine Festival Project Manager

Do you have an recommendations of wines that we should be looking for this year and which ones are your favorites?

My favorite variety is a fruitful Pinot Noir from Marlborough to Central Otago. Although the same variety, you can have an entirely different experience based on the region. There are various new wines that will be new to the Korean market. Make sure to stop by those stalls to widen your wine knowledge! ~ Sunny Myung, Board Director of the Kiwi Chamber and the Wine Festival Project Manager

Can you tell me about the delicious food that we can look forward to? It’s always a treat.

The buffets are carefully selected with a wide range of foods that pair very well with the wines that we will be showcasing. This year, we will have โ€œThe Grand Grazing Tableโ€ which will be made up of New Zealand made products such as; fragrant cheeses, fruits, snacks, honey. – Essentially everything youโ€™d want on a cheese platter but supersized. It truly will be a gastronomical experience that is so exclusive to Kiwi culture. ~ Sunny Myung, Board Director of the Kiwi Chamber and the Wine Festival Project Manager

On top of the great wines and delectable food, there is also the opportunity to win some amazing prizes. There is a lucky draw with prizes including hotel stays, gift sets, and usually a substantial grand prize so come with some cash to buy the raffle tickets.

This Year is Extra Special

Not only is the event set to kick off some great fun, but this is also the 60th anniversary of New Zealand and South Korea diplomatic relations meaning there will be events throughout the year to celebrate.

What is the significant of this and how can the Kiwi Chamber assist to create more business partnerships between the two countries?

60 years is significant from anyoneโ€™s point of view.  Without giving many secrets away, I remember the 50th anniversary and the celebration of the ever growing closer relationship between our two countries. Since then, NZ/Korea relationship has grown in leaps and bounds.  The seeds planted at the signing of the FTA relationship are now flourishing, and with the hopeful demise of Covid, we are starting to see more and more partnerships evolving between the two countries, at every level, and especially in business.  Korea is an important trading partner with NZ, and luckily for us we are seeing more and more NZ businesses taking an interest in the opportunities that this sophisticated economy has to offer.  And vice-versa.  The 60 years has culminated in this strong base we can work from. ~ Dr. Tony Garrett, Chairman of the Kiwi Chamber

During this special year, what other events does the Kiwi Chamber have planned?

We have awoken from the Covid blues, and we have so much planned.  Many are still in the initial planning stages, but others such as these wine festivals are in advanced stages. Look forward to our Grand Hui in November, our workshops and other events that we will be organizing either alone or in conjunction with our key partners.  We have to bit between teeth and we are running.  The 60th anniversary will be a good year. ~ Dr. Tony Garrett, Chairman of the Kiwi Chamber
