Korean Dramas: “Pasta” Made Me Want To Eat Pasta

If you like Korean dramas or are interested in them, you definitely need to watch “Pasta”. Not only is the drama great, but the soundtrack is great. Produced by the group Every Single Day, the OST is awesome and though I say that with some bias as one of the writers and musicians is my own husband, the drama is worth a watch. This was the band’s debut working on Korean dramas and now they have almost 20 K-dramas under their belt. I would say it was a pretty successful foray into the industry. Pasta has a fun storyline that will make you hungry for pasta every time you sit down to watch. Trust me.

You never know what experience you’ll have in Korea. I never expected to meet a bunch of famous Korean actors that’s for sure:

What is the Korean drama “Pasta” about

Korean Drama: Pasta OST

A well-produced, feel-good drama, “Pasta” is a South Korean drama series that follows the story of Seo Yoo-kyung, played by Gong Hyo-jin, a kitchen assistant who dreams of becoming a top chef in a fancy Italian restaurant. She catches the eye of the head chef, Choi Hyun-wook, played by Lee Sun-kyun, with her passion and talent for cooking. As they work together, their relationship grows beyond that of a boss and subordinate, but their love is tested by the challenges of the competitive restaurant industry and the interference of jealous rivals. Alex Chu plays Kim San, a charismatic and charming Italian chef who arrives at the restaurant, threatening to steal Seo Yoo-kyung’s heart and challenge Choi Hyun-wook for the top position at La Sfera. Through it all, Seo Yoo-kyung must confront her past and familial pressures that have hindered her dreams.

The “Pasta” after party

Right from the start I was gung-ho for the show because Sun-gyun Lee (이선균), the same actor from my first favorite Korean drama “Coffee Prince”, was in it. I say my first favorite but it was really the only one previous to “Pasta” that I’d watched. I was even more excited for “Pasta” when I found out there was a wrap party at the end of the drama and I could go with Jae-oo and maybe get to take a picture with Sun-gyun Lee. And that is just what I did.

Korean Drama: Pasta Afterparty; Sung-min Lee (이성민)
Sung-min Lee (이성민) who appeared in both Pasta and My Princess making him a known Korean actor in my short book of Korean actors I could remember names and faces of.

When we arrived at the afterparty dinner venue, everyone was seated in groups: the actors together (obviously they had filmed together for months so knew each other quite well), the camera crew, the musicians, etc. Everyone was pretty separated while the producer and director sort of meandered from table to table thanking everyone and talking with all of the groups.

There was buzz in the room when the food was eaten as you could tell everyone in the crew wanted pics with the actors that they weren’t allowed to get while filming so near the end before moving to the noraebong portion of the party, everyone started asking for pics and lining up and so on. As I wasn’t quite sure what to do or what was taboo, I didn’t get any pics. I didn’t want to embarrass my partner that had invited me obviously.

Once at the noraebong, the director came over and Jae-oo mentioned that I had been hoping to get a picture with Lee Sun-Gyun but wasn’t able to. She quickly whisked me to the actors and I got all of my pics. Actually, at the noraebong it seemed that there was a bit of an unspoken no-pic rule and I imagine it was because there was LOADS of alcohol on the tables for everyone and no actor or any person for that matter wants a drunk pic surfacing on the Internet.

Korean Drama: Pasta Afterparty; Hyo-jin Kong (공효진)

Snap Snap Snap, I was done and the fun ensued. Hyo-jin Kong (공효진), who I personally think is a great actress. I loved her in “Pasta” and have since watched other dramas she’s been in and found her to be really a well rounded actress. She is super stylish and very friendly. Definitely follow her if you aren’t already.

Why you should the K-drama “Pasta”

  • Korean Drama: Pasta OSTPredictable and comfortable with a unique premise. Like putting on a good pair of jeans, this show does follow a standard timeline of events which means it feel just right. It’s a comfortable and delightful Sunday afternoon drama but focuses on the culinary world for a fun twist.
  • Hunger. This show WILL make you want to eat pasta again and again. Whip up your favorite bowl of pasta and sit back and watch this show with friends. It shows off the cooking fantastically.
  • The music: This was the first drama my husband worked on and the goal was to create music that fit the scene and wasn’t just some K-pop song flung carelessly into a scene. The music was created with care to suit the scene and add to it rather than detracting. It’s appropriate, catchy, and good.

Check out some of the Every Single Day music for yourself and let me know what you think!

Do I envy you girl???? Man, you are ONE lucky woman! It is 2021 – eleven years since you first wrote this one. I just discovered Kdrama and Mr.Deep Voice in My Mister – thanks to Netflix. I can’t get over the show even after a month of having seen it. I have seen Coffee Prince and Pasta now. Thank God, he got the girl in Pasta!! otherwise I would have brooded like hell yeah!
I wonder if doing the show changed any of the actors in My Mister.. Me & another friend have become Lee Sung-gyun fans and are lapping up everything. Hell, we are are also learning Hangeul now!
It was lovely to read about your experience with the team. Hoping to catch the latest interview with 이선균 some time if your format allows 🙂
