Papa Recipe: Noble Rot Lifting Ampoule & Essence Review
Korean skincare is ever evolving and always using natural ingredients that it would never occur to me to put onto my skin. If Noble Rot is new to you, don’t worry, it was new to me as well and it’s not as bad as it might sound… really. Papa Recipe, born from a parent’s concern for their child’s skin, has created skincare that uses raw materials from nature and noble rot is one of them.
If you’ve had skin issues, then this might just be the Korean skincare company to look to for understanding and grace. We’ll get into that and more below.

Who is Papa Recipe?
Papa Recipe was started in 2012 by a father who began researching healthy cosmetics and skincare for his daughter who had skin issues. He created an organic jojoba oil for his daughter and then began selling it to other parents who had similar skin concerns. Their brand is focused on creating skincare products that the whole family can use.
Papa Recipe is also a brand that is interested in being more sustainable and supportive of environmental campaigns. They call themselves and their avid fans the ‘skin Sherpas’ as Sherpas act as a guide into the mountainous Himalayans and Papa Recipe wants to be the guides into your skin and eco-friendly lifestyle.
What is Noble Rot?
The name doesn’t sound all that appealing, but look a bit deeper and you’ll probably be surprised. Noble rot, also called botrytis cinerea, is a kind of grey fungus, a beneficial fungus, that grows on fermenting grapes. Those noble rot affected grapes actually produce a delicious and desirable sweet wine when all said and done. Does that still not sound attractive? I haven’t seen many, or any, other skincare companies using noble rot so it’s a unique ingredient in the Papa Recipe skincare line.
When it comes to the skin, Papa Recipe says that noble rot is effective in hydrating dry and sensitive skin.
Noble Rot Lifting Ampoule Review
What It is: Ampoule
Fermented grape extract has numerous anti-aging properties. It is meant to hydrate the skin, increase elasticity, and diminish fine lines. Other key ingredients in this ampoule are the macadamia seed oil, hyaluronic acid, and adenosine which helps with anti-aging, soothing, repairing, and restoring skin. This ampoule is said to be good for all skin types and is hypoallergenic.
When To Use: Apply after cleansing and toning.
The ampoule has two layers, a watery ampoule layer and a milky oil layer so remember to gently shake the bottle before opening so the distinct layers mix.
My Thoughts: The bottle is a beautiful summery sunset shade of yellow and orange and has a twist-to-reveal top which means it’s a self-pumping pipette dispenser. Twisting the lid automatically pops the pipette and fills the dropper. The liquid is a very light and runny milky mixture and has a slight oily feeling, though not to be confused with greasy. There was no major scent that I could notice. It spreads easily onto the skin and immediately soaks into the skin. I really like the feeling of this ampoule going on and did find it to be quite hydrating after use. I tend to have skin on the dryer side so look for products that will give me that healthy hydrating glow and did find that in this ampoule. A little goes a long way with this one as well which I appreciated. I have used it both at night and in the morning before applying make-up it worked well in both routines. It was able to layer and my skin was softer after use.
Where To Buy: You can buy the Noble Rot Lifting Ampoule on Amazon.com. If you’re in Korea, you can also purchase the Noble Rot Lifting Ampoule on the Papa Recipe website.

Noble Rot Lifting Essence Review
What It is: Essence
Created with the same anti-aging fermented grape extract, this essence is alcohol-free and paraben-free. The essence has 82% grape fruit ferment extract. This essence is meant to help with hydration, skin radiance, smile lines, and crow’s feet, and improve skin elasticity. Note that this is an essence and not a toner. While a toner’s main purpose is to balance the pH levels of the skin and clear away any impurities, an essence is more like a serum in that the purpose is to hydrate and nourish the skin.
When To Use: Apply after cleansing
My Thoughts: The essence bottle is also in that comforting summery sunset hue. The liquid is lightweight and spreads easily across the face. It’s quite watery so absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t leave any tacky or sticky feeling afterward. There’s also no oily or greasy feeling after use. It’s lightweight and works well for a hot and humid summer that is what we deal with here in Korea.
There is no major scent for this essence. If you’re needing extra hydration after your toner and before that beautiful ampoule above, then this will do the trick. I found it to be fast absorbing and an extra dose of needed hydration for my dry skin. It layers beautifully.
Where To Buy: You can buy the Noble Rot Essence Toner on Amazon.com. If you’re in Korea, you can also purchase the Noble Rot Essence Toner on the Papa Recipe website.
