A Crazy Multiply Sketch Night Is a Hit!
The Crazy Multiply Art Collective once again hit it big with the recent Transcribe/ Coalesce sketch night. With everything from musicians, installations, performance art and craft beer to boot, it would have been difficult not to enjoy the people and the space. The collective added two new curators to the duo that was me, Hallie Bradley, and Amy Smith. The new faces running the scene are Marina Carstens and the artist known as Unmaru. Marina uses pen and ink to get her viewpoint across whileย Unmaru is an American digital artist classically trained in printmaking who, upon moving to Seoul, has begun exploring a variety of digital formats, glitch art, videos, animations and sonification pieces. We are thrilled to have them filling out the group and can’t wait to plan even more shows with them.
Katelyn Douglass shared a piece with the audience that at once silenced as well as brought on laughter and giggles with her brazen honesty of learning that what she was doing was masturbating when she watched the Friends episode where Monica thought Chandler was masturbating to shark porn. Intimate truths shared between vigorous writing on the wall kept everyone’s eyes peeled. Another artist that had people talking was Nathalie Richard, a Canadian who is finishing up a year here in Korea and will be heading back to her home country soon. She chose to juxtapose nine scenes together on screen and called it Still. While it seemed simple it was also complex in nature. Wind moved the leaves of a tree and ribbons hanging from a lantern while a fire burned and a lake sparkled under the sun. Nine beautiful scenes brought together as one. Other artists included: Kaleena Carter, Jin Chon, Kemek and Jurgen Dunhofen, Jeongmin Lee, Michael Orsiniย who did the amazing zine for the show, Amanda Schutze who kept people smiling while posing with her handmade glasses and performance artistย Martyn Thompson.
People scribbled, drew and sketched on pads that were passed from friend to friend to stranger and on as well as pictures that were hung on the wall. The night whiled away with people talking, drinking and enjoying the performances from musicians likeย elle/the REMNANTย an indie/folk music group all the way from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Other musicians included David Thomas Broughton, Beet Juice and Sighborggg. The combination of artists and musicians and an audience that was gung-ho to get involved made for a great night for all in attendance.
The next Crazy Multiply show is slated to take place at the end of March or early April under the theme of Natural History and we hope more people are excited to get involved!
Our call for art for the next show:ย Art that depicts or relates to the Earth sciences; Geology, Ecology, Geophysics, Meteorology, Anatomy, Astronomy, Biology, and Paleontology.
Donโt limit yourself to this world. The strange and fantastic is welcome.
