If you’re planning a trip to Cheongsong, definitely consider staying there for at least a night. It’s a bit of a trek but well worth it. For a great hotel option, book a room at Sono Belle Cheongsong on Booking.com or on Agoda.com.
What to know about Cheongsong
Cheongsong produces over 42,000 tons of apples a year, the third largest producing county in the country according to our guide, and they are eaten in not only Korea, but also Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Europe.
The apples from Cheongsong are not only special for their deliciously sweet taste, but also for their eco-friendly farming practices and their low use of pesticides. The festival is held to increase the income of the devoted apple farmers in the area and showcase the bountiful harvests each year.
What To Expect
Students from the area look like happy fresh apples as they dance around in their red costumes with a green sash about their waists. Contests for the fastest apple eaters, fastest apple peelers, fastest apple juice guzzlers and fastest apple splitters are held.
There are places to take photos with apples and places to build apple clocks, paint paper apples and more. There’s something for everyone, it’s really a family fun event. The locals are proud of their apple farms and apple farming history and should be extremely proud of the exquisite apples they produce.
Don’t walk away empty handed. Boxes of apples, apple alcohol, apple snacks and more on sale and one perk for those that live far away, the large boxes of apples don’t need to be lugged home on the bus or other transportation, they can be delivered straight to the house. Hands on activities include apple soap and lotion making as well as apple picking. It sure is a townie treat.
