ShuShu and Sassy: The Kid Friendly Skincare Brand & The Kids Beauty Salons In Seoul

There are kids’ cafes all over Korea but now there are also kids’ spas and beauty salons too! If you’re looking for the cutest most Instagrammable places to take your kids in Seoul, it has to be ShuShu and Sassy (슈슈앤쎄씨).

When our little lady was younger we visited the Tayo Kids Cafe and the Pororo Kids Cafe but she is quickly getting too old for all of that madness it seems. One of the hottest trends in Korea right now is taking kids to get their own manicures, pedicures and glittery hair extensions and my daughter really jumped right onto that bandwagon. Children wanting to mimic their parents is nothing new but entrepreneurs and brands setting up experiential spaces for them to do it in this way is pretty new.

There is a ton to do with kids in Seoul and this is just one more thing to put on that kid-friendly bucket list. You can also just buy their products for something to do with your kids at home. It really came as no surprise that my daughter, watching me bring home new products to make my skin glow became interested as well.

Because I wanted to ensure her safety and didn’t want her to “play” with something that might be more detrimental to her skin than helpful, I was led down a path to find safe skincare products for children and learned about the lifestyle brand ShuShu Cosmetics.

Who is Shu Shu Cosmetics?

Shu Shu Cosmetics, the brand behind the popular ShuShu and Sassy beauty salons, our personal favorite, is a pioneer in operating adorably pink boutique children’s salons and providing their child-safe cosmetics throughout. It’s a super smart marketing ploy that my daughter and I couldn’t resist.

The Shu Shu Cosmetics line of products include water-soluble nail polishes, nontoxic lip crayons and organic sheet masks that are cut out in little bunny face shapes. Their products are toxin-free and use herbal and natural pigments to produce a varied spectrum of colors.

There are kid friendly bath bombs, shampoos, and so much more that can be purchased to take home from the salons as well so it becomes really difficult to leave with empty arms, but at least you know you’ll be taking home something safe for your little people.

I, for one, am happy that there are brands that are aware and are looking to meet a demand in the market. I think kids seeking to be like their parents and finding their way onto their mother’s vanity has happened for ages, but it’s nice to have an option for something the little ones in our lives can sneak into without hurting themselves.

Searching for her also led me to search for more green and clean cosmetics brands for myself so it was really a win-win situation. If you’re visiting Seoul with a little one, this is great fun to have if you want to let your littles be pampered.

The ShuShu and Sassy Spa

Shu Shu Cosmetics produced some great products but realized that they could sell even more by creating miniature salons for the children we love. The boutique spas are named ShuShu and Sassy. There are ShuShu and Sassy spas around Korea. We have visited one in Eunpyeong-gu on the west side of Seoul and in Lotte Mall near Seoul Sky and Signiel Hotel on the east side of Seoul.

They are decorated in pink and gold and feature miniature pink sofas for children to sit on while they get their nails done. There are cute bunny-shaped pillows and neon lights for some pretty epic photo opportunities too. Everything was thought of when it went into creating a kid-friendly adorably cute boutique spa experience that’s for sure.

You can make reservations though we’ve never had a problem just showing up and entering. If you do want to make a reservation, the phone numbers are listed below with the relevant locations. After entering and choosing a package, children can choose from a pink or blue robe and head wrap with bunny ears so they can sit comfortably while getting their nails or hair done.

A salon specialist will take the child to a sofa where they dip their feet into warm water with a little bath bomb and enjoy a short foot/calf massage. They’ll get to enjoy an organic sheet mask at this time as well. The sheet mask comes in the shape of a bunny, the mascot for the brand.

After the massage is complete, the sheet mask is removed and sun cream that comes in a cushion shaped holder is applied along with some colorful lip crayons. Next, the little one gets to choose colors for their manicure and pedicure. Mine usually chooses to do an every other color design and the salon specialist carefully and calmly listens and applies the chosen colors adeptly. After the nail polishes have dried, the child gets to choose from nail stickers.

Now, the nail polishes are water soluble which means they’ll come off in a day or so after washing hands. I have heard some moms complain about this because they’ve paid for the manicure, but personally I think you’re really paying for the experience. Water soluble nail polishes are child-safe, which is important, and if he or she wants to be like mom or dad and get their nails done and have that fun salon experience, this is a GREAT experience.

Moms can actually jump into the fun and have a foot spa and foot/calf massage while you wait too though usually I head over to get coffee from a nearby coffee and come back and sit at the tables and wait as most of the other moms do. Yes, you can actually pop out for 15 minutes and come back… at least at the ones we frequent. The specialists inside are very friendly and helpful and every child I’ve ever seen is very comfortable as soon as they are seated.

Unfortunately it seems all of the Shu Shu and Sassy Beauty Spas have closed over the past few years. Hopefully, they can reopen again soon.

Kid Friendly Organic Skincare Products

ShuShu and Sassy products use high quality and eco-friendly ingredients so that our children can be safe while having fun. Here are some of the products that we’ve tried and have enjoyed but they actually have a ton in-store. I’ve put links to the products that I could find on English sites for readers abroad.

If you’re in Korea, you can purchase using their website. Unfortunately though, I noticed that you can purchase from their English site but only on their Korean site which means you’ll have to navigate the payment system entirely in Korean. Here are a few things to check out if you can on their site though. Check their site for some fun collaborations they’ve done as well with BT21 and Disney’s Frozen.

Happy ShuShu Day Water-based Nail Polish

This water-based, peelable, oderless nail polish comes in 16 colors for plenty of colorful design opportunities. The products are also great if you’ve got a little one that wants to paint YOUR nails and maybe you want to be able to wash it off rather quickly.

Yes, they are water-based which means they will wash off in the bath or with a good hand washing soon after application but if your little person is anything like mine, the fun part is the painting and changing colors anyway, so letting her put something on her nails that she can remove and redo multiple times in one sitting is great. If you’re abroad, you can buy some of their nail polishes here on Amazon.

Sheet Masks

My daughter LOVES opening my sheet masks but they’re definitely too big for her face and have a variety of serums and ampoules that she might not quite be ready for. Are you looking for a sheet mask that fits children? Specifically a kids sheet mask? ShuShu Cosmetics sheet masks are EWG certified and use natural extracts to produce a moisturizing effect safely and naturally. They’re cute as they’re shaped like little bunny faces and make for great gifts as well. If you’re abroad, you can buy some of their sheet masks here on Amazon.

ShuShu Kids Cushion

I REALLY liked the idea of this. Ava LOVES to get into my cushions and in so doing, they’re basically ruined after. The kids cushions are filled with sun cream so she can dab and pat until her heart desires as far as I’m concerned. Get that SPF on girl! These actually gave me an idea for what to do with my own compacts that were finished, but if you want a cute little pink one with a bunny on it, ShuShu & Sassy has them!
