How To Volunteer for the Lotus Lantern Festival!
Last year, I was lucky to be chosen to participate as a volunteer for the Lotus Lantern Festival and not only were we able to help out in the festival, but we also had the opportunity to learn more about Korean Buddhism from practicing monks, experience a temple stay, and meet new people. The search is open once again for foreigners as well as Koreans interested in volunteering at the festival and if you’re interested here’s how to get involved (I made it onto the flyer ㅋㅋ):If you’ve been to the festival before and want to experience it in a different way, I highly recommend this opportunity. I met some great people from Korea and around the world and learned more about Korean Buddhism. I was also able to participate in every part of the Lotus Lantern Festival itself from the opening ceremony and walking in the parade to the final dance under the stars in the streets around Jogyesa Temple. We danced together, we sang together, we bowed together and we ate together and through all of that we grew together.
Check out the video below for some insight into what we were able to do and what you can do too if you choose to volunteer this year!
