Naksan Temple: A Guide To The Seaside Temple In Yangyang-Gun
A few years ago I remember hearing someone remark that Haedong Yonggungsa Temple in Busan was the only seaside temple in Korea. I sat back in my chair and thought about my trip to Naksansa Temple (낙산사) in Yangyang-gun and how it most surely must count as a seaside temple with a pavilion and paths that literally take you to Naksan Beach and waves that splash against the cliffs beneath your feet. There are often signs placed on landmarks on sites here that read the “tallest this”, or the “largest that” and they will be a string of words that are technically correct, but not really true in the way…

Hoping the beaches in the vicinity would be just as beautiful, I came…

Visit A Temple in Taebaek: Mandeoksa
While I tend to save temple visiting to spring in Korea due to how beautiful they are with the lanterns hung in celebration of Buddha’s birthday, I don’t just pass them by if I have the time and it’s not spring. While we were in Taebaek for the beautiful Taebaek Snow Festival, I spotted a temple nearby. Since we were spending the day in the area, we decided to stop into Mandeoksa (만덕사). The golden statues at the entrance were beckoning and we couldn’t say no. Wondering what to see in Taebaek? Or want to do more when you head to the area for winter fun? Maybe a temple stop…

Chuncheon’s Cheongpyeong Temple and the Trek To Get There
The weather starting to warm up, or at least be reasonable for walking outside, has me itching to get out and do something. I was looking back at some temples I’ve been to so I can make a list of some different ones to check out in the upcoming year and I chanced upon one of my favorites, Cheongpyeong-sa Temple (청평사). Cheongpyeongsa is one of my favorites probably for the trip that it takes to get there, which entails traveling by bus, boat and a nice, but not too lengthy, hike. Take a trip to see this temple in Chuncheon. The trek to get there is beautiful: (This post contains…
