The Summer Music Festivals To Check Out In Korea in 2019
Summer just isn’t complete without dancing the night away at at least one summer music festival and there are plenty to choose from this summer in South Korea.
From Seoul to Incheon and south to Busan, there are music festivals across the country. Starting in May, the outdoor music fests can be heard blasting some awesome music. Camp under the stars with some awesome rock bands and dance the night away to some EDM. If you can figure it out, I highly suggest buying tickets online in advance for the best deals. Keep up with their websites so you can get their early bird discounts.

1. Dream Concert
May 18, 2019
World Cup Stadium
Dream Concert is THE event if you’re a KPop fan. Some have said it’s the number 1 event for KPop fans and it’s been going strong since 1995. This year the popular acts Taemin, Red Velvet, NCT Dream, Mamamoo, and Astrol will be gracing the stage. This takes place in my favorite park in the city. Go early and visit the World Cup Parks.
May 18, 2019 – May 19, 2019
Nanji Hangang Park, Seoul
This festival sits just meters away from the Han River. While the water rushes by in the background, the grass beckons those in attendance to have a picnic and enjoy a fun day outside in the spring breeze. Just down the road from Hongdae and Mangwon-dong and set in the substantial World Cup Park, there’s a lot to do in the area to make a great time of it. FYI, if you don’t want to actually purchase tickets, you can still head to the area and enjoy the festival atmosphere just outside of the tents. The grass is open and great for activities and you’ll still be able to hear the music. This year’s line up includes: NELL, YB, GOD, H a lot, The Vane, Punch, and plenty more.
3. Big Day South
May 24, 2019 – May 26, 2019
Big Day South returns to Busan in 2019 with the largest iteration of the audio-visual festival to date. The 3-day festival will spread out across the city with stages at Gwangan, KSU, and PNU. This will be a thrilling celebration of the creative scenes beyond the capital. Big Day South provides a space for community, collaboration, and appreciation. There’s a truly wonderful line-up of artists and performers this year, and audience participation is just as important as ever with a number of new ways to engage and interact. 4. HBC May Music Festival
May 25, 2019 – May 26, 2019
In its 14th year, this fest is the longest running independent fest in the area and is made up entirely of independent artists and performers from Korea and abroad. Festival venues include some HBC favorites like: Hair Of The Dogg, Linus BBQ, Camarata, Phillies Pub, The Cave, Hidden Cellar, and Pet Sounds. The event attracts people from all over to see great acts and music can be heard throughout the streets. There are some live band venues like Phillies Pub, Camarata, Head there to support local and check out their website for updated lineups. If you like a good neighborhood block party-esque vibe, this is the May fest for you. If you’ve had your fill of music, be sure to head around the corner to the hot spots in Hannam-dong or go around the corner the other way to visit the massive War Memorial of Korea.
5. Incheon World Music Fiesta

Some of the trendiest from the hip hop scene and from the Korean show Show Me The Money. Line up includes Jay Park, DPR Live, Nafla, Loopy, Sik-k, Haon, Hangzoo, Boi B, Changmo, Hash Swan, Rhythm Power, Cheey Coke and more who will be showing off some sick flow and rhythm… as they say. Spend the weekend and then head over to see some of the other fun spots in Incheon like China Town.

6. Seoul Jazz Festival
May 25, 2019 – May 26, 2019
Olympic Park, Seoul
The Seoul Jazz Festival never disappoints. This year Omara Portuondo, Clean Bandit, Epik High, Lucid Fall Morpholine Ensemble, The Puppini Sisters, Wynton Marsalis, Rudimental, Crush, and so so many more will take the stage. All of the acts will be sure to impress as they take the stage in this, the thirteenth Seoul Jazz Festival. The lineup is always perfect for anyone in attendance and it is easy to get to over in Olympic Park so check it out if you’re in Seoul in May.

7. Seoul World DJ Festival
June 1, 2019 – June 2, 2019
One of the biggest EDM festivals in Korea, the World DJ Festival. This year acts will include Amtrac, Griz, Jeffrey Sutorius, Kasbo, Phantoms, Troyboi, What So Not, Will Sparks and plenty more. The World DJ Festival has been kicking off the summer with awesome music for many years in Korea. This is definitely one of those fests that will really make you feel as if summer has truly arrived. Get those early bird tickets while you still can!

8. Rainbow Island

In its 9th year, this is a great opportunity to get out, dance the night away and camp under the stars. If an island getaway complete with a music festival and camping doesn’t sound like fun to you, I don’t know what else to say to make it sound enticing. 9. DMZ Peace Train Music Festival
June 5, 2019 – June 9, 2019
Goseokjeong, Nodongdangsa, Woljeong-ri Station, Soi Mountain & Platform Changgdong 61
This annual festival is in its second year and ultimately aims to promote freedom and peace which makes sense due to its location. Indie bands Hyukoh, John Cale from the Velvet Underground, Cui Jian, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Guampara Music from Cuba, Dead Buttons, Elephant Gym and so many more will be singing the weekend away. The festival doesn’t have a headliner but promotes all of the music that has led and inspired a generation. The DMZ is a must visit so don’t miss this opportunity to see the area from Goseokjeong and Woljeong-ri Station to Cheolwon.
10. UMF Korea
June 7, 2019 – June 9, 2019
Everland Speedway, Yongin
The Ultra Music Festival is an annual outdoor electronic music festival that was founded in Miami, Florida in 1999. Now, it takes place in venues all around the world and it will make a stop in Seoul and you won’t want to miss it. This year acts coming to Korea include: Jamie Jones, Martin Garrix, Skrillex, Virtual Self, Art Department, Eats Everything and a ton more that will play over three days. Get your tickets early for those early bird specials!
11. It’s A Fest!
June 15, 2019 – June 16, 2019
Hanagae Beach, Muui Island, Incheon
This free rock festival has a line up with some of the best ska, punk, and alternative bands in Korea and abroad. Check out Iman’s League, Half-Asleep, The Sino Hearts, Galaxy Express, Burning Hepburn, Drive Shower, Sidecar, and lots of others. Head to the beach this summer, stay in a bungalow or camp on the sand, enjoy a BBQ and bonfire and of course the music.
12. Jisan Rock Festival
July 26, 2019 – July 28, 2019
Jisan Resort, Icheon, Gyeonggido
Don’t be confused. Though the name is super similar to the highly popular Jisan Valley Rock Festival that was rocking the peninsula since 2009, this year that festival hosted by CJ ENM won’t be happening. BUT, this festival with different organizers and a similar name, hopes to carry on the legacy of the aforementioned.
13. Busan Rock Festival
July 27, 2019 – July 28, 2019
Samnak Ecological Park, Busan
This festival will rock your socks off. First launched in 1999 and includes both Korean and international artists. The rock fest has gotten bigger and bigger each year and showcases Busan’s own homegrown musicians as well as other rock and metal acts from across the country and abroad. Info hasn’t been announced for this one yet but wrapping up the summer of music down in Busan is a must!
June 29, 2019 – June 30, 2019
Nanji Hangang Park
This festival is in its sixth year and will be showcasing a brand new pentagon shaped stage, better sound equipment, better lighting, visuals and lasers. If you’re an EDM fan, check out this fest that will see the likes of SAID THE SKY, Darren Styles, SASASAS, Markus Schulz, Sullivan King and more.
15. Pentaport Rock Festival
Songdo Pentaport Park, Incheon
If you’re into rock and electronic music, this festival has been a favorite of many since 2006. The name comes out of the combination of the five main themes of the fest: music, passion, eco-friendly, DIY and friendship. Acts haven’t been announced yet, but stay on top of this one for some great fun out in the Incheon area.
There is a music festival for everyone. Make sure to check the sites and get your early bird tickets to save some cash to be spent on more tickets for more festivals! The summer is coming. Don’t miss out on all of the fun.
