The group started at a Hanbok rental shop at 10:00am and was dressed head, and some, to toe in traditional Korean clothing. Each person chose from a selection of brightly colored skirts and tops, changed and then had their hair done. They had the option to carry a provided purse as well so the whole outfit could be in the style of traditional Korea.

After the group was dressed and good to go, we headed to Unhyeongung Palace or royal residence. The residence provided a chance to talk about some history and gave the guests a look at, likely, the least popular palace of the five in Seoul. It also provided some great backdrops for photos and we all know if you’re going to get dressed up, you’ve gotta take some photos to show off!

After the royal residence, we took visitors to a traditional Hanok known for their gold leaf experience program. A Korean teacher gave them hints and tips and showed them what to do and they were off making their own gold leaf bookmarks, after a little practice on scrap cloth. The bookmarks turned out great and everyone had fun.

Dressed in Hanboks, set in a Hanok house doing a traditional inspired art project really made the experience come alive.

To wrap up the tour, we headed to a nearby Hanok for some traditional tea. By the time we arrived, everyone was good and hot, so we took our teas iced and enjoyed conversation on the history of Hanboks and the style that people are wearing today.
