Alternative Space Loop: Henkel InnoART 2011
Sometimes I forget how much art there is in my backyard, aka Hongdae. I guess since most of the art tends to be in the many cafes scattered throughout the area, I don’t take the time to hit the galleries that actually exist.
The Alternative Space Loop (대안공간 루프) is hosting the Henkel InnoART project until Wednesday, May 5, 2011. Even if you miss it the space is nice and on a side of Hongdae disregarded by the people more familiar with the drinking atmosphere at the other end. It’s a nice gander on a Sunday.
Henkel along with Loop have decided to start an annual showcase of Korean artists in the middle of their careers. “Since the 1990s, galleries have placed a heavy focus on discovering and supporting young emerging artists. However, many have overlooked the importance of nurturing artists past the early years of their professional careers and helping them achieve a higher degree of recognition. To this end, it was deemed critical to highlight and more systematically support those in the mid-career category so that they may reach out to wider audiences and make greater strides both locally and internationally.” This year they’ve decided to highlight three well-known artists in Korea: Lee Dong Gi, Yoo Seung Ho, and Hong Kyong Tack.
On the way you can stop in one of the 25 or more cafes lining the street to get there.
